I don't know about that. Most of them tend to be pretty worthless, but they do have some worthwhile people. Prince Andrew acquitted himself well in the Falklands War when he *volunteered* to serve as a missile decoy in his helicopter so his shipmates wouldn't eat an Exocet. He also flew a number of combat missions in that war. He put in 22 years in the Royal Navy as an active-duty serving officer.

IMHO, Andrew is more deserving of his post than Kerry is of his senatorship.

If "the Faith" is depending on a reprobate like Charles to defend it, it is truly in a precarious state.

No bet. There's every chance she'll do so. Her mother lived to 101, and Elizabeth shows no signs that she's any less tough that her mom.

Arguing over his proper title are they?

How about "Lord Tampon"?

That would be worth at least a giggle from Lady Camilla. ;)

The man should examine the direction England has been going in the past 100 years, and compare it to "where the Empire went." It is one thing to avoid persecuting the Christian faction that is out of power, and another entirely to walk away from the God of our Fathers, as he looks to be doing. He reminds me of my feminazi (former) sister-in-law, who loved every culture but this one and every country but her own.

Adultery used to be part of the job description for kings--where else did all those royal bastards (like Diana's ancestor, one of Charles II's illegitimate children) come from? In fact, the royal dynasties of England since the Norman Conquest of 1066 all trace back to William the Conqueror, who was previously called William the Bastard.

The title of "Defender of the Faith" was first bestowed on Henry VIII by the pope, because of his defense of the Catholic view of the Eucharist against Martin Luther. Henry VIII later had Sir Thomas More and Bishop John Fisher executed because of their loyalty to the Catholic Church. It seems ironic that the non-Catholic monarchs of England have continued to use a title which came from the pope.

Since Latin doesn't have either a definite or an indefinite article, Defensor fidei could mean "defender of a faith"--so whatever faith the heir apparent has, he can be the defender of that.

It has happened before. George III succeeded his grandfather, George II, because his father died before his grandfather.

"It's got to be a much more interfaith coronation service next time around. Prince Charles put his finger on it and there's no way in which the sovereign can be defender of one faith.

Let me guess - the liberal elite Brits think Muslims will reciprocate when they're in charge?

" We'll be ever so tolerant now, and you'll be ever so tolerant when it's your turn". Dream on, Brits. They won't.

Christianity will be outlawed. Tolerance will be cease to exist. If Prince Charles and gang had been running the show in the 40's we'd all be speaking German.

I'm not sure how stressful it is being a monarch, but the Queen Mum was never Head Of State.

Harry doesn't have the corner on stupid actions and comments either. I remember his aunt Anne once declared that "pregnancy is a bore." What a waste of humanity she is.

How does that make her stupid? I've had several pregnancies myself and I promise you, pregnancy is a bore. It's the babies that are interesting, not the pregnancy. By all reports--some reports coming from friends of mine who know her--Anne is a devoted mother who doesn't spoil her kids.
