Luther's phrase was "Here I stand, I can do no other. God help me." When he was being tried for heresy by the catholic church for not adhering to the tenets of the state religion.
As far as Africa goes, the continent was effectively ruined by European exploitation. Not sure if it's worth trying to salvage anymore.
