Well-connected public figures report that they have been told recently by Rudolph Giuliani that, as of now, he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
The former mayor of New York was on top of last month's national Gallup poll measuring presidential preferences by registered Republicans, with 29 percent. Sen. John McCain's 24 percent was second, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich third at 8 percent. National polls all year have shown Giuliani running either first or second to McCain, with the rest of the presidential possibilities far behind.
Republican insiders respond to these numbers by saying rank-and-file GOP voters will abandon Giuliani once they realize his position on abortion, gay rights and gun control. Party strategists calculate that if he actually runs, he must change on at least one of these issues.

In '92 and again in '96 a 3rd party candidate emerged, and many took him for a conservative. Plain spoken, roll up the sleeves and fix it kind of guy.
Had you guys not been around in '92, and bought into the Perot BS, while ignoring the Clinton BS, we would have been spared eight years of national humiliation!
I make no predictions about whether he'll win or not, but I've been saying for years that all this adulation for Rudy Giuliani is a farce. He ain't going to run, and for a number of different reasons -- one of which is that he knows he doesn't have a chance in hell of winning.
Rudy Giuliani is going to be the 2008 version of Colin Powell -- the closet Democrat who gets trotted around the Republican campaign trail to show voters how "inclusive" the party is and to secure support among specific constituent groups.

It would concern me what kind of nominees a Prez Rudy would send to the Supreme Court, but at least they would be preferable to any nominees from a Demonkat Prez ...

I like Mike Pence. Pence is a Reagan conservative too. Except for his switch on the immigration issue, I like his politics. If Pence won the GOP noimination, I'd vote for him.

The social issues all belong at the states rights level. Rudy should run on getting all the social issues voted on by each state.

John Kerry was the "dork" in the last campaign. But that didn't keep him from getting far more support in the general election than he should have gotten.
