As long as they aren't flashing at 60hz i'll take half as efficient as nasty flourescents.

Could it that they're using a different baseline for "efficiency"? We've been assuming it's "energy out/energy in", but what if it's "visible energy emission/total energy emission" instead? The latter might get you to the vicinity of the 100% figure.

Dude, I've been hearing things like this for 25 years, but that's only because I'm not old enough to have heard them for 100 years. Another revolutionary invention to be forgotten in the next news cycle.

Flat Light = chemical lightstick after Hillary accidentally sits on it in your car.I thought that was a fat light... but perhaps you didn't mean to suggest that the lightstick actually became firmly wedged in-between her lumpy buttocks.

"This process will enable us to get 100 percent efficiency out of a single, broad spectrum light source," Thompson said.I'm sure that that's an exaggeration, but his invention still sounds really neat.

Isn't an LED close to resistance free? Admittedly, 100% is a stretch.

1/10 the cost of a regular bulb; 1/100th the operating cost of a regular bulb; and, by the time RPA gets involved, $500 each to dispose of each broken or burned out one?

It is mind boggling that we are still using this 1878 PREHISTORIC invention, essentially unchanged. Some things just plain work.

There; I fixed it for me.

But wait: 100% of the energy input to an incandescent bulb is turned into either light or heat, right?

I've bought White LED flashlight several days ago. It wasn't cheap but the cost performance and its life span is just good. My friend bought White LED for his car's head light. I hope we will have White LED to replace our flourescent light, but it still seems years away for White LED to be bright enough without sacrificing its effeciency and life span.

Incandescents are about 10 Lumens per watt, fluorescent are about are about 80 lumens/W and the latest LEDs are about 130 lumens/W.
So if these OLED's are only three times better than incandescents that is still not as good as fluorescent and a long way from LED's.
