U.S. near deal with China on illegals (39,000 to be deported to Red China)
The Washington Times ^ | April 5, 2006 | Audrey Hudson

The Department of Homeland Security is near an agreement with China to return up to 39,000 Chinese illegally living in the U.S. to the communist country, which previously had refused to accept deportations. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff yesterday said the tentative agreement, which would let the U.S. deport Chinese illegals as they are arrested, will act as a deterrent to other foreign nationals contemplating illegal immigration. "We can't be in the position any longer where we are paying the burden and bearing the burden for countries that won't cooperate with us and take their own citizens back," said Mr. Chertoff as he completed a weeklong tour of China, Japan and Singapore to discuss security and immigration issues. Mr. Chertoff said nearly 700 Chinese nationals held in U.S. detention centers are clogging the system and that more than 38,000 have been released on bond after spending the maximum 180 days in lockup.

the point here is this ... how do you deport people back to their homeland when the country they came from won't let them back?

Obivously our Homeland security Dept is clued on the definition of illegal immigrant. They have 39,000 of them to send back to China.

Let me debunk the untruths here ...

"It's just a cop-out to make people think they're doing something to curb illegal immigrants."

A damned if you do, damned if you dont world.
At least give DHS credit for doing the right thing here.

"The truth is these Chinese people probably had a visa at one time and it just expired and the government could renew their visas."

If that is the case, then they would NOT be illegal aliens. Realityy is quite different here.

"..no problem. To make the administration look good(and they're not fooling anyone)they process 39,000 Chinese when there are 12 million illegal Mexican out there."

Uninformed comment ... millions of border crossers from mexico are stopped each year. in addition, the Chinese are coming in ships as stowaways.

"These politians like Chertoff are a joke.Chinese people work harder than Mexican if you want to know the truth, besides this they use their brains."

A bunch of racial-stereotype generalizations. That is the real joke.

"Let's face the truth .....the Mexicans waded the river, but the chinese had to get a visa to get here damn-it!!"

Another untruth: Many of the illegal aliens are 'visa overstayers', true, but thousands of Chinese have also come via boats or in the hold of container ships.

"Like hell! They give the Mexican illegals a pass and send these Chinese back to be persecuted? WTF is coming off with the fools in Washington?"

So we are only supposed to enforce the laws against certain nationalities? You dont a problem with illegal immigrtion from China? Let me give you a hint: If we let in 10,000 illegal aliens from China, then 100 million will want to follow them.

I see way too many just-off-the-boat Asians to think that there are 'only' 39,000 here illegally.

Oh I see, being HONEST is being "self righteous".

BTW If you do not want one to respond to your post, that is simply solved by not posting.

China, unlike Mexico does not encourage defectors, those people will be persecuted, if not prosecuted and imprisoned.

Me:"So we are only supposed to enforce the laws against certain nationalities? You dont a problem with illegal immigrtion from China? Let me give you a hint: If we let in 10,000 illegal aliens from China, then 100 million will want to follow them."

You:"Problem is, you aren't doing that for Mexican immigrants. There are illegals from every country in the world in the US. Why is it that the vast majority of illegal immigrants in the US are Mexicans?"

Duh, it's obvious - we share a border with mexico that is 1800 miles long!!! Plenty of other countries would send *floods* of people - if they could get a way with it.

" You aren't enforcing the laws against Mexicans to the extent that you are for every other nationality, that's why."

Wrong. Acutally, we play 'catch and release' games with
countries other than mexico; when we catch mexicans, they are sent back over the border. You are wrong that enforcement favors mexico - proximity favors mexico.
you and I both know that we dont enforce immigration laws on the interior for *any* countries to the extent we should.

"12 million versus 39,000 is not an equivalency by any measure."

Actually its more like - 7 million illegal alien mexicans, 5 million illegal alien OTMs.
57% of illegal aliens are mexicans, 43% are other countries.
This story is about the fact that to end 'catch and release' which is a complete hole in immigration law enforcement, we need to have bilateral agreements with other countries.
That includes China.

If you think these people need asylum because they might get persecuted if returned to China, that's a whole other subject.

"Only misguided liberals would argue that they are equal."

Only misguided liberals would stoop to ad hominem when facts suffice.

Rove solution on immigration:
- border security
- tools to enforce the immigration law in the interior
- better job of assimilation, by having citizens learn english and share in the values and principles of the country
- temporary worker program
