The articles you post tend to burn my ass. I'd bet this one will burn yours too. Talk about two sets of rules!

Exactly!  I never heard of the cops actually going through with the act.  The prostitute usually gets the money then undresses then BAM!  In come the rest of the squad to arrest her.  I never heard of a law enforcement officer actually "going through" with the sex act in order to "seal the deal."  Sure hope these officers of the law are SINGLE!

And who paid for that $3 hundred some dollar tab??  The TAXPAYERS???  Sounds unethical to me.

It is a "nuiscance" crime. Yet law enforcement agencies devote enormous amounts of manpower and monetary resources to "suppress" it.

A few years ago I read that cops in Hawaii engaged in this type of "evidence" gathering also, and that it was sanctioned by the Hawaiian courts. I don't know if it is still the practice though.

Yeah, but did the sheriff have to phrase it like this?
"If you want to make them, this has to be done."

Spotsylvania County Sheriff Howard Smith said he stands by the practice of allowing detectives to receive sexual services in the course of their investigations so they can catch suspects in the act.

The day after this statement was made, the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Department recieved 543,233 resumes from all over the country...

What if the woman said she got the clap from one of the cops? Could she sue the PD?

That is an insane policy.

Rewrite the laws if necessary.

"Hey Sheriff, does that mean your vice deputies have to bend over to bust the fags??????"

LOL!! Bet the policy gets changed when that little fact gets mentioned at the next town meeting!

Yes, but considering today's various arrangements, are the unmarried ones ALSO single?

Aside from the obvious labor-employer questions of favoritsm and discrimination, you must consider what would be the consequences if this ill-advised policy of "proving" a person is a prostitute is carried to its logical next step.

I'm referring, of course, to the problem (perhaps not as rampant in Spotsylvania as in cities like Philadelphia) of male prostitution.

Finding recruits for the vice squad could be a challenge under such restrictive rules.

Yeah, right. Once she starts you have the evidence. Going through with the full act is not necessary for the conviction but as an excuse to have some 'fun' on the side - probably a risk of STDs as well. This police department should be embarassed for making these kinds of excuses. Essentially, since the police officers are being paid to conduct these 'investigations', they are making prostitutes of themselves.

Because in order for a civilization to survive and propser, certain behaviors must be prohibited, and certain morals promoted. Otherwise you degenerate into anarchy or dictatorship. It's called natural law and it's just as real and concrete as the law of gravity.

Laws which require law-breaking on the part of government authorities to enforce should be declared null and void.

This would extend to possession of "dangerous substances," "illegal weapons" and "drug paraphernalia" at a minimum.

If it takes a dynamic entry by a SWAT team to catch someone with a weapon he has never taken out on the street and brandished, something is wrong.

There are great similarities between anti-gun laws and anti-drug laws, but few of the drug warriors will so much as admit it.

Prostitution? The greatest crime is committed against the hookers, by their pimps. Because of our puritanical laws against a natural act between consenting adults, prostitutes have to rely on less-than-savory characters for protection. Open it up to legal competition and the thugs would never have an opportunity to dominate the world's oldest profession.

"Smith told The Washington Post that only unmarried detectives are allowed to do the under-the-covers work."

Don't think many wives would be real happy about it. And I gotta say I'm glad my detective isn't on this detail.
