Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189
There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
Prayers are with all past and present victims and families.
Subways, London -- does not mean subways here -- think above ground trains... maybe buses.
Publius, thank for you for posting these insights into the DUmmies. This is an extremely apt moment to share them IMO.
From this side of the pond, I have to wonder what the fallout is going to be like around London. I'm assuming there will be a considerable number of arrests. Given the skyrocketing Muslim population, I would be concerned that this will spawn either copycat attacks or retaliatory attacks for coming arrests. It seems the Muslim population (and I'm sorry to generalize) in London is a giant sleeper cell of sorts. What's your take on how this will affect the Muslim pop.?
Add Saudi to that list (especially a pair of Saudi cities).
Off topic a bit, but sister-in-law lived in UK for a year. Prior to going, her huisband's company had a class on social customs and habits. It had a "translation list" and a list of what NOT to say.
"Fannie" (as in butt) was on the bad word list.
"Smartfannie" just does not do it like "smartass" LOL!
Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the London Transport bombing attacks in revenge for Britains participation in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars." July 7, 2005, 2:34 PM (GMT+02:00)"
I'm not sure if all the internet connections are working. I was fortunate to get through before the news had even hit the tv, here in the states. Thanks to the poster from London. I told my son to go back to the school (he's doing an internship through Arizona State)and email me. But I haven't heard from him, yet.
It just so happened that I couldn't sleep and turned on the computer just as the post came up.
Other leaders lobbying for their cut of the welfare pie. I saw Vicente Fox in the background.
If there is any saving grace to this horrible episode, it is that we will be spared further stories about bad food for prisoners at Gitmo, and Korans that are stuffed in a toilet, or burned..
"IMHO to have been longtime residents"
Maybe members of that London mosque that was linked to the Ricin they found in that London flat?

Report: Islamic group makes claim of responsibility for London blasts
The Associated Press, July 7, 2005
A group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe" has posted a claim of responsibility for Thursday's series of blasts in London, saying they were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The statement, which also threatened attacks in Italy and Denmark, was published on a Web site popular with Islamic militants, according to Elaph, a secular Arabic-language news Web site, and Der Spiegel magazine in Berlin, which both published the text on their Web sites.
Thank John Ashcroft and the Patriot Act.
From your lips to God's ear.
Thankfully, it's been pulled ... oh, and you're an idiot
here's one I found: " A horse of good bottom means of good stamina, good foundation."
I've seen the phrase used in British books to refer to people as well.
So, I guess we're both right!
It doesn't matter.
Churchill wrote his speeches, and delivered them to great effect when it mattered.
Like GW said,"You are either with us or against us."
OMG! That's horrid. I cannot believe the death toll remains at two, but I'm certainly thankful.
From North to south, east to west". This seems familiar..like something I remember from an old Usama tape around the time of 9-11. It also seems...."directional", i.e., a command.
July 7, 1987: Former National Security Council aide Oliver North begins his televised testimony in the Iran-Contra hearings, testifying that he took no action that was not approved by his superiors.
Time to bomb Iran.
Blair is boarding a helicopter live on CNN for his trip back to London. CNN says 160 injured.
The muslim population EVERYWHERE is a 5th column element which lives to support thr jihadists wherever they are.
Please...tell me the G8 is NOT going to sit down and resume talks about global warming.
Yes indeed--fannie in UK equals bad bad c-word here. I learned that a few years ago--thankfully.
North Chingford in NE of the City, about halfway between London and the M25.
oh yeah it will!
I refuse to watch Qatie, but from the posts I am reading, sounds like she is doing what she and the rest of MSM did after 9/11, instructing us how to react and think. Soon our MSM will not refer to this as a terrorist attack. All pictures and videos will disappear or be santized.
After all, if Qatie does not tell us, we might react with hatred and anger.
Is it still possible to enrage the UK, when daily there's outrageous street crimes committed by gangs of roving thugs on legally-disarmed innocent victims that are swept under the rug by Scotland Yard?
That's what's left of the suicide bomber, right? Only his very Middle-Eastern looking head?
Financial Times - UK - Tony Blair cals it TERRORISM.
I actually agree with her. There should be separate wings at Gitmo. Schedule the torture sessions on a M-W-F and Tu-Th-Sat basis.
If they STOPPED talking, that would be a big help..
"Tactically, this is a brilliantly conceived operation"
I was thinking the same thing. Also that the long delay between 9/11, Madrid, and now this... reminds me of a border collie herding sheep.... minimal movement for maximum effect.
Dubya should get on Air Force One and come home.
It seems as though 8:49 am is the witching hour (the timing today, in Madrid and the WTC all hit then). I just changed my morning plans and will sit this one out.
WTF .. it's called the tube because it's underground.
If you don't know what "mind the gap" means, you don't know what you're talking about.
See the Viking Kitty got Publius just moments ago.
I think it was "Don't Fawke with Britain"
Guy Fawke is their hero.
