Okay, should we address him as Dr. Tom Cruise from now on? Or will the Rev. Dr. Cruise suffice?
Whatever: Anybody who watched the actor's performance on NBC's "Today" show yesterday witnessed an unsettling transformation. The movie star, who has long embraced Scientology, launched a full-bore assault on the psychiatric profession, sticking to a script that his church (founded, mind you, by a hack science fiction writer) has been promoting for decades.
"Psychiatry is a pseudoscience," he told host Matt Lauer, later saying: "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."...

"I'm beginning to feel more than ever fortunate never to have seen one of his films."
Actually we just watched "Collateral" the other night. I think it was the first Tom Cruise flick I ever saw. It was very good, violent, but good. Tom Cruise was really excellent in it, to my surprise. And Jamie Foxx was excellent also, no surprise there. And all the smaller roles, also extremely well played. I'd recommend it highly, if you don't mind a lot of blood shed.

Some Answers to Your Most Frequent Questions
Who invented Diarrhetics[TM]?
The father of Diarrhetics[TM] is Elron Hubbard, or "Captain Love Log," as he is lovingly referred to by thousands of nubile, subservient Suckbunnies[TM], Hosemonsters[TM], and Minionsluts[TM] around the globe.

Psychiatry is about as scientific as thetans coming out of a volcanic explosion caused by massive amounts of nuclear weapons being thrown down the crater!
Hmmm... for not being scientific Psychiatrists sure do spend a lot of time in college, medical school, and medical residency.

I find TC's behavior deeply disturbing. When I was a freshman in college (this was 30 years ago) I stumbled into a "bookstore" that was really a Scientology center in Seattle. I had some time to kill so when they offered tp give me a "free" psychological test (Ok, remember I was all of 18 at the time. I said fine and took it.
The questions were all designed to get a certain response, e.g.:
How often do have thoughts of suicide?
A. Always
B. Most of the time
C. A couple time a week
D. Sometimes
Obviously there was no way to answer NEVER. But I played along and when I finished (it was a very long questionnaire) the "counselor" told me that I had deep paychiatric problems and was on the verge of suicide and they neede to give me intensive counseling right away. He didn't want to let me leave because he was so concerned about what I might do (monorail was right outside, he was afraid I'd jump off). Gee, I was feeling pretty good, enjoying my first year in college, in love and engaged to be married, so I argued that I wasn't depressed at all. I started getting a little scared about this time and wanted to leave. They wouldn't let me because they were so "concerend" about me. I kept arguing with the "counselor" (this went on for several hours) and finally he threw down his pencil and declared that if I wouldn't admit I had a problem there was nothing they could do to help me. At that points I RAN out of there.
So, when I watched Tom Cruise spouting the line that there are no chemical imblances and he knows psychiatry is a sham, I flashed back on my experience of being told I was extremely disturbed so Scientology could "cure" me. The reason they don't believe in psychiatry is so that they can take otherwise healthy people and make them dependent on the Church of Scientology for their well being. This is dangerous stuff!

I know next to nothing about Scientology but I do know that even Tom Cruise has the RIGHT to practice any damn religion he wants to and for some writer from the Washington comPost to make fun of it is or should be a crime. If he did that to a practitioner of the religion of peace, he would be tarred and feathered. How very cool. You say that Tom Cruise has the RIGHT to practice any damn religion he wants to.....BUT you think that it should be a crime for the writer from the Washington comPost, who is exercising his RIGHT to free speech? Isn't that double standards?

If they think/say it is, it is!I demand tax exempt status for my home/yard, because my religion is based upon the worship of fruit raised in my garden. All hail the mighty tomato!

Probably. But I do get a little tired of some of the sanctimonious bast**ds deciding what someone is allowed to believe. If Tom Cruise thinks L. Ron Hubbard is a god, that is his business. As long it does not harm anyone, it is fine with me.BR>

This is my take on Scientology which I have posted on another thead:
Besides being L. Ron Hubbard's invention to gain tax exempt status, Scientology sounds like one of his science fiction novels which he wrote in the 1930s. His movement called Dianetics believes that, through a system of quasi-psychotherapeutic techniques, one can reach perfection, the Thetan level; which is the door to eternal life. By reaching the Thetan level, one can become free from the cycle of birth and death (reincarnation).
With Dianetics, man is not basically evil. It is his computer brain that is in need of psychotherapy to reach self-perfection. The trouble with this New Age pseudo-religion, is that one cannot reach this Thetan level because no amount of self-perfection is possible when one relies on imperfect human nature to do so. Dianetics takes advantage of people's naivety to extract expensive ministerial fees for counseling by making them believe that perfect knowledge will produce perfect behavior, errorless wisdom and judgment. This exercise in narcissism believes above all, that human repentance and divine grace are unnecessary and, that man's mind, and not God, is all that's necessary for eternal life.
I wonder how much the Scientology people in Florida were pushing the euthanasia agenda in the Terri Schiavo case. You should know that the world headquarters for the "Church" of Scientology is in Clearwater, Florida.
Comments about psychoactive drugs is what one would expect from an empty-headed actor like Tom Cruise, whose world view believes that there is no evil, just untrained minds. It also such New Age philosophy that worships the self and forgets such things as the First Commandment: "I am the Lord your God, do not put other gods before me." Without acknowledging the First Commandment, it is sort of hard to follow the rest; especially the one that says, "thou shalt not kill." That too is always a good one to follow; especially mindful of one of the tenants of Catholicism: God's promise of the everlasting pains of Hell to those with Mortal Sin.
The wicked are said to be "cast into everlasting fire," Matt. 18:8; to "go away into everlasting punishment," Matt. 25:46; to be "punished with everlasting destruction," 2 Thess. 1:9; to have the "mist of darkness" reserved for them for ever, 2 Pet. 2:17; to be "tormented day and night, for ever and ever," Rev. 20:10; and by several other expressions of the like nature.
The healing touch of God has done much for troubled minds. Where God has not healed, he can work to bring about the correct therapy from doctors and can help those researchers find new therapies for the sick.
