They are going to announce that they stand behind the memos "1000%" (remember George McGovern's famous support for Tom Eagleton's vice presidential nomination), Dan Rather is taking a job chairing the Joseph Goebbels School of Political Journalism at Harvard and that Baghdad Bob will be Rather's replacement on the CBS Evening News.
I guess I'm worried that the originals are there, and CBS has essentially fallen on their sword to get the interest up before releasing the real memos.
Yes, I realize that this is beyond paranoid, but it is the only way I can reconcile CBS's almost insanely stupid behavior.
CBS will stonewall this until the year 2032, at which time 100-year-old Dan Rather will finally retire and reminisce about that "funny incident from 2004" when his staff mixed up the documents and he passed off a forgery as a real document, but managed to pull it off until the heat died down.
Im predicting a pathetic pseudo retraction that will cause the story to linger into next week.
CBS (and the Kerry campaign) desperately wants the story to end with the news cycle this week but I think Rather will be stupid,arrogant and continue to fight a battle he has no hope of winning.
