Five Lone Stars. Mess with Texas? Sure. Divide it into five states.

What would you say if we told you we have a way to add as many as eight new Republican senators to Congress? We could also add eight right-leaning votes to the Electoral College. It's simple, it's fun, and it's perfectly constitutional: Texas should divide itself into five states.

Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution says that new states may be created out of existing ones, but only with the consent of "the States concerned as well as of the Congress."

These days, a partisan Congress would never agree to a Texas carve-up, since any resulting new states would surely be politically conservative. But Congress need not take any action at all today: It granted its consent to Texas's potential subdivision 159 years ago. This made sense, as those had been the terms that Texas, a sovereign nation at the time, had negotiated for entering the Union. One provision of the 1845 Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas, passed by Congress and signed into law by President John Tyler, reads as follows:

"New States, of convenient size, not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas, and having sufficient population, may hereafter, by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the federal constitution."

I've been looking for a similar map of CA. Do you know where I could find one?

No sorry, I made the NY one myself.

Also,

* Take the Oregon and Washington border and turn it vertical in the middle, So one state is made from the Western coast area and the other is what is now Eastern Washington/Oregon. I guess we can call them Washore and Gonington.

* Merge Ct. and RI. There are towns bigger than RI, It doesn't deserve to be a state on it's own. Yes I know we would lose a seat but we are going to anyhow someday soon, At least we have only 2 rats instead of 4. Or what the hell merge Massachusetts in with them.

* Same with Delaware, Give it to Maryland

* Carve out a state from Madison WI through Milwaukee through Chicago and end the eastern border at Cary Indiana.

* Split California in 2

* I not sure of the demographics of Ohio, So I could be off, But possibly carve a new state from Detroit to Cleveland

Give the Texans 10 Senators instead of only 2? I'm OK with that.

Well, at least y'all seem to be moving in the "right" direction. A GOP pickup of five counties, if I count right (San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Ventura, and San Berdoo).

Maybe instead of splitting it up we should take back all of the original.

Oh, you mean give it back to Mexico?

Explaining the politics... we did buy that land from Russia.

As to not giving them more representation in Congress...
Texas has a population of 20,851,820
Alaska has a population of 626,932

6 flags flew over Texas. Why should Mexico get it?

There was a war. The Republic of Texas won independence.

I know that. :-) But, I would dig splitting up Alaska into 4 or twelve states. The dems could never win the White House and Texas would be the largest state again.

They were all Texas at one point... That is until we got rid of 'em and kept the true part...

Oops, I see I was looking at those color associations backwards. Yes a divided Alaska would get more electoral votes (right now they have 3). Rhode Island has 4 (with a population over 1million). Washington DC has 3 (with a population of 600k).

There would possibly be even MORE electoral votes in the region (each state would get at least 1).

Tennessee has 96 counties. By makding each county a state, we would have 192 senators and 96 congressional representatives. Then other states could follow suit and end up with over 1000 senators and the county by county red and blue map could be reflected in the makeup of the senate and house....

In all seriousness, where would such gerrymandering end?
