The catastrophe in Sudan is an unspeakable horror. But the terrible humanitarian tragedy now unfolding before our eyes on our TV screens has a long and violent history.
Since the eighties, some three million Sudanese have been slaughtered and a further four million turned into refugees. In the Darfur region in the west of the country, where the current massacres and ethnic cleansing are taking place, an estimated 30,000 have been killed with a further million made homeless.
Yet it is only now that this disaster is receiving any attention at all. The world now looks to the United Nations to stop the atrocities and end the suffering. But the UN’s response is muted and ineffectual. For what it isn’t good at is dealing with appalling behaviour by one of its own member states.

The UN is part of the problem in Sudan. It cannot fight tyranny and terror, because it is itself an organisation riddled with corruption which appeases, connives at and even promotes tyranny and terror.
The only way to stop the state-sponsored killing in Sudan and elsewhere is to exclude those states from the community of civilised nations. We need instead a United Democratic Nations, a world body composed of states which embody democratic values.

The "United Democratic Nations" would be a pretty small body to begin with. One of the reasons that the UN as now constituated is unable to claim the title of "Parliament of Man" is because of a majority-rule by representatives of non-elected governments. A "democracy" selected from undemocratic peers. There has to be some kind of oxymoron there.
I really do not understand the moral authority of the UN. Why is it that an organization that allows a genocidal dictatorship (Sudan) to sit on the Human Rights Commission has ANY moral authority? The UN has refused to condemn genocide in Sudan, and the deliberate starvation of the population in Zimbabwe, so how can it have any moral authority to condemn Israel for building a defensive wall?
Those leftist democracies would've voted to keep the US out of that UDN because Al Gore 'won'.
