You know, we had this call. I guess -- I don't know, yesterday, day before -- we had a pretty good call, liberal called in and wanted to pick my brain, so to speak, about abstinence programs versus condoms when it comes to AIDS and teen pregnancy and this sort of thing, the conference that was going on in Bangkok -- and, lo and behold, there's a little story here in the Los Angeles Times today: "Teenage birth rate hit a record low in 2002, says a report. Teenage birth rate reached a record low in 2002 dropping to the lowest level since the government started keeping records in the forties, according to an annual report on the well-being of America's churrin. "Twenty-three girls per 1,000, ages 15 to 17, gave birth in 2002, a decrease of 40% since 1991, the report said. Births among girls ages 18 to 19 also dropped to historic lows, and," dadelut dadelut dadelut dadelut dadelut!

"The largest decreases were among black teenagers. The drop in the adolescent birth rate is one of the biggest success stories said Dr. Duane Alexander, a pediatrician and director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. 'When the pregnancy rate was climbing in the late eighties, people got really energized and started a lot of programs that got the teenagers' attention,' said Stephanie Ventura, a statistician at the..." I just hope there's not somebody here named Cakeshaft. What was her name? Shaftcake? What was...? The one that's... It wasn't Cakeshaft. It wasn't Crankshaft. What was it? It was some -- Shakeshaft, yes. That name Shakeshaft. I just hope she's not part of this study because I will lose it.

"As a result of these programs that were started to get teenagers' attention, teenagers have been using contraceptives more often, particularly condoms, and..." Get this. This is so hard for the LA Times to write, "...and are having sex less often or abstaining." (Gasping.) No! "Forty percent stop teenage birth rate since 2001, less sex or abstinence cited as factors." Why, I guess it does work! Hubba hubba. Yes, they are more obese. In fact, that's coming up. In fact -- here's the story: Medicare Alters Obesity. I may as well get into this now since you mentioned that. Doesn't matter they're having fewer kids and less problems, but they're fatter than ever. (Read Rush's coverage: Trial Lawyers Closer to Making Obesity a Disease)

Newsies have such a difficult time getting control over their adolescent sexual urges they find it impossible to believe that other people can do so.

Hate to break it to y'all but a lot of this drop can be explained by the fact that kids are doing a lot of sexual activities that won't result in pregnancies.

As they say, in your dreams!

It is the fate of old folks to believe the young folks are having more than they did, and in the most interesting and gymnastically challenging ways.
