The US Soldier did what he was supposed to do. What he is told to do. Report any such abuse to his commanding officers.

The ones who should be singled out for ridicule and treated like the left wing nuts that they are, are the dims who can't seem to get it. The system worked, the corrective action was ongoing, way before anyone knew of any pictures.

The Red Cross knew way back in February about the abuses and said that proper corrective action was being taken.

This kerfuffle, like those before it, is a whole lot about get Bush, I hate Bush, and not much about truth.

These left wing nuts besmirching our troops and our country, are too consumed with hate to see what they are doing. Sadly, they are doing the same thing Kerry and the media did with Vietnam, but this time people have a means of countering their lies.

Truth will win out. Hatred is finished.

The guy who should be executed for treason (and was probably paid off by Teresa Heinz) is the pinko liberal fanatic who slipped these photos under the media's door.

Agree and I am sure $$$$ changed hands somewhere along the way

These jerks who did this abuse should give an apology to every member of the armed forces, sacrificing and serving with honor for our country.

Emphatically agreed.

They're still available if you still want one -- just check in with the Buick Club of America. (But you can't have mine -- I need it for road trips.)

The whistleblower who alerted ratted out officers to the torture abusive college hijinks of Iraqi prisoners of war cowardly murderers was Specialist Joseph Darby, 24.

So, you think that a Soldier doing his duty in reporting illegal and immoral acts of sexual torture is a rat?

A "rat" in common parlance is someone who, having knowledge of and personal interest in a crime, gives up his accomplices to save his own skin.

This Soldier merely did what he was taught to do in boot camp...he told superiors about violations of the UCMJ and Geneva Conventions he witnessed. That is NOT a "rat"...that is an honorable, courageous Soldier of whom we should all be proud. I know I am.

Check out the Pentagon investigator's report. I believe you will change your mind.

And they will be dead wrong ... Darby blew the whistle back in january to his higher ups --totally different from the scumbag who released the photo's to the press.

Exactly .. besides we already knew it was a soldier that told .. we just didn't know his name

"So, you think that a Soldier doing his duty in reporting illegal and immoral acts of sexual torture is a rat?"

"Torture"?? That's BS. No torture. NO death. Worse stuff happens in college.

"A 'rat' in common parlance is someone who, having knowledge of and personal interest in a crime, gives up his accomplices to save his own skin."

And let's cut the crap. The Geneva Convention has been violated one-million times since it's inception. The fact of the matter is while this incident shouldn't be condoned, the degree and context of "violation" under wartime conditions was trivial , yet the damage caused is proportionately huge.

Now look at the mess this a-hole -- yes, and RAT -- has cause Dubya Bush, ALL American Armed Forces, AND Americans??

Go ahead -- be real "proud" of this idiot. It's your prerogative.

Since you apparently feel that a Soldier SHOULD NOT follow orders, respect the UCMJ, or Geneva, or do what it is his DUTY to do, I'm not sure why I'm trying to reason with you, but here goes...

The Pentagon's official report is at this link. It details abuses which were FAR WORSE than any "college fraternity" nonsense. Perhaps you feel that being sodomized with a broomstick and chemlight, or raped, or attacked with a dog, or having your hands and feet stomped on, do not constitute torture. If not, then by all means explain what does.

"And let's cut the crap. The Geneva Convention has been violated one-million times since it's inception."

Irrelevant. WE make it our business, and our law, to follow it. It is but ONE of the things that sets us apart as a civilized nation.

Just because SOMEONE ELSE acts like a savage, doesn't give US license to do so.

"Now look at the mess this a-hole -- yes, and RAT -- has cause Dubya Bush, ALL American Armed Forces, AND Americans??"

The damage (and it is indeed severe, including that to the morale of the Armed Forces) was caused not by this one man doing his duty, but by those who perpetrated their sick, perverse acts on prisoners it was their duty to provide safety to, and who photographed themselves doing it for future "enjoyment'. It is with THEM that your anger should lie. Or, do you blame Bill Clinton's accusers for HIS transgressions too?

"Go ahead -- be real "proud" of this idiot. It's your prerogative."

I will, as he is a shining example of Honor, Commitment, and Courage. He "stood in the door" and did the Right Thing against what must have been overwhelming peer pressure.

Now I have a question for you...given your apparent lack of respect for superior orders, the UCMJ, and the concept of DUTY, and your, shall we say, "odd" shifting of the blame from the perps to the one who reported them, have you ever served in the military? I ask, because I have posted these exact same sentiments numerous times on FR, and all the Active Duty military and about 90% of the vets totally agree with my analysis. Oh, and EVERY person that I am priviledged to serve with does, too.

If the honor of the U.S. Army was upheld, we can thank that U.S. soldier.

Absolutely! Truth shines a light in the darkness. The whole chain of command - all the way up to that stupid general who spouted off to the press inferring blame upon her subordinates - should be relieved and reduced in permanent rank. With rank and privilege comes responsibility.

Those soldiers disgraced themselves, the Army, and the United States. Darby did the right thing by informing his chain of command and getting this activity 1-stopped and 2-investigated.

This could even be worse if Darby hadn't taken action and the abuse was ongoing with no action taken when the photos came out; as they certainly would have eventually regardless of Darby's actions.

I pity your foolish brain.

You have no sense of duty. SPC Darby did not cause this media storm, whoever leaked the pictures caused it.

SPC Darby is an asset to the Army, and I'm damn proud of him. I wish all soldiers had his character and sense of duty.

No doubt, there is a group of FR wingnuts tuning up to say "Specialist Darby should be executed for treason" and to accuse him, without evidence, of being paid off by Teresa Kerry...

I was expecting to see some of that on this thread, no doubt.

IMO, the possible homosexual 'don't ask don't tell' connection shouldn't be ignored here. Darby may have been trying to alert the brass of the ramifications of a monumentally stupid policy.

"Queer eye for the prisoner guy" is one possibility.

Another one is just as disturbing.

Looking back through the US Naval Institute Proceedings, I found two articles--one from the mid-1970s, one from the late 1980s--advocating serious changes in how the military screens and trains recruits. This is necessary to keep people with major personality disorders from enlisting.

As far as I can tell, none of the proposed changes have ever been implemented.

Or he was part of the secret Clinton cabal that manages to control everything but the weather...
