OK, we are getting back into the old patterns of things, so maybe this will snap people back to the fact that I am determined to not have the old pattern return. On this thread, there was a ton of baiting, a ton of personal attacks, some veiled racism, and quite a few posts that striked me as literally indicative of insanity on the part of the poster— if the poster meant what he said. Y’all have to do a better job self-policing or these discussions won’t happen. And I do not buy the argument that one side wants that to happen. I see threasds where one side starts it, I see threads where the other side starts it. I see threads started where it seem the person posting the thread is the one who is doing things to start the thread down the path to being pulled, backroomed, or locked. I’m going to post to the individuals I see doing these unconstructive things but anyone who thinks “I am talking about them not me” is not getting the point. Everyone can do their part to make these threads better. Even someone who never has posted anything which is bad can help by helping to tell those they agree with on issues to back off when they are doing things like flaming or tinfoiling or baiting. This is going to take effort, and some are making it and some are not. Please make it.

Hill Cool to Bush Immigration Plan
Washington Post ^ | 1/11/04 | Helen Dewar

Posted on 01/10/2004 9:33:03 PM PST by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

President Bush's proposal to give temporary legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants is running into stiff resistance from both left and right on Capitol Hill and stands little chance of enactment this year, according to supporters and opponents. While this assessment is based on early responses, with the lobbying effort barely begun, some lawmakers say the measure's only chance of passage this year would require an all-out push by the president, and even that might not be enough.

Do you suppose that President Bush knew that he was proposing something he wnated to be discussed, discected and inspected by Congress?

Not really. He tried to get smaller amnesties like 245i (amnesty from illegal overstay penalties) and TPS extension (amnesty for Central American illegals) onto the books, not just the debate agenda. TPS extension, in fact, made it to his desk and is now in effect.

No, and the strategery alibi is wearing a bit thin.

I'll bet.

"Hi. I'm unpissed Arne Fufkin.

I don't know anyone, outside this forum, who IS pissed over this one. You may need to get out more."

LOL!

My Mother-In-Law is pissed. She is an avowed Socialist. But she voted for McClintock in the Tom/Ahrnold scuffle because of her perceived notion that Uncle Tom was going to be harder on Illegals than the Muscle Man.

Of course, she's also pissed that she's my Mother-in-Law (can't say that I blame her). I guess I look too much like, you know, one of... them.

"...as you seem to be the only one ranting on this thread."

No, I'm ranting, too. Well actually, I guess, I'm counter ranting. I certainly not ranting well enough to start this thread. Was Diogenes a ranter? Or just a cynic?

Keep the pressure on! If they won't stop this insanity, vote them out!
Shut the Door in '04 Vote Tancredo!

Bump to that. I'd love to see a noticeable number of people send a message by voting Tancredo in the primaries.

As to what to do in the General election, that's a trickier one. I'm also writing someone in or going third party in the GE, but that's easy for me to say, as I vote in the District of Columbia.

So, less than a month to Spring Training. You guys playing for second or third this year? The Padres look tough.

Besides, my family was in Atzlan before yours.

Thanks for admitting your real position and motivation for supporting this atrocity

Gee whiz. I didn't know you were forced to read anyone's post

No more so than you're similarly "forced" to read mine, either. Or to subject yourself to the distress of enduring (or lipping off about) same. Hint, hint.

"Ostensibly" conservative? That you find opinions on this issue in stark contrast to your own does not lessen the reality that this is a conservative message board, one that ALLOWS a diverse spectrum of opinion.

Liberal codswallop. The fact that this IS (again: ostensibly) a conservative board plainly does NOT offer license for the same sort of brain-dead "Bush Is Satan" blather I might just as easily pick up at MoveOn.org, or the DU boards.

If that's your poison of choice, on the other hand: you very definitely are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. There's a solution for that.

Possible "strategery"?: The President proposes fully expecting Congress to examine it minutely and allowing a dem partisan vote to ultimately scrub it, he looks compassionate and moderate (compared to the dem alternative), those opposing his proposal appear either heartless and/or extremist...election over, 2nd term begins.

BINGO!!! :)

Perhaps being trapped in Seattle has finally taken its toll, as you seem to be the only one ranting on this thread.

Perhaps being a highly excitable lunatic has begun playing hob with your reading comprehension. The only ones "ranting" hereabouts are the ones claiming that George W. Bush is a "traitor," a "liberal," a "socialist" or a "war criminal"... or don't those qualify as "ranting" on Bizarro-Earth?

Ah, the rants of the unchurched and unshepherded.

Your motivation in supporting millions of peasants from Latin America pouring over our borders wouldn't have anything to do with increasing the numbers of your co-religionists in this country for the purpose of trying to bend our laws to conform to the dictates of your church, would it?
