OK, we are getting back into the old patterns of things, so maybe this will snap people back to the fact that I am determined to not have the old pattern return. On this thread, there was a ton of baiting, a ton of personal attacks, some veiled racism, and quite a few posts that striked me as literally indicative of insanity on the part of the poster— if the poster meant what he said. Y’all have to do a better job self-policing or these discussions won’t happen. And I do not buy the argument that one side wants that to happen. I see threasds where one side starts it, I see threads where the other side starts it. I see threads started where it seem the person posting the thread is the one who is doing things to start the thread down the path to being pulled, backroomed, or locked. I’m going to post to the individuals I see doing these unconstructive things but anyone who thinks “I am talking about them not me” is not getting the point. Everyone can do their part to make these threads better. Even someone who never has posted anything which is bad can help by helping to tell those they agree with on issues to back off when they are doing things like flaming or tinfoiling or baiting. This is going to take effort, and some are making it and some are not. Please make it.

Hill Cool to Bush Immigration Plan
Washington Post ^ | 1/11/04 | Helen Dewar

Posted on 01/10/2004 9:33:03 PM PST by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

President Bush's proposal to give temporary legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants is running into stiff resistance from both left and right on Capitol Hill and stands little chance of enactment this year, according to supporters and opponents. While this assessment is based on early responses, with the lobbying effort barely begun, some lawmakers say the measure's only chance of passage this year would require an all-out push by the president, and even that might not be enough.

Do you suppose that President Bush knew that he was proposing something he wnated to be discussed, discected and inspected by Congress? He is not King, or Dictator, so I suppose he put it out there for a debate. No?

I would have believed the 'put it out for discussion so Congress (or the Supreme Court) can spike it' strategy before the campaign finance reform fiasco. Karl Rove is overstaying his welcome.

In a perfect world, I wouldn't be forced to read post after blathering, empty-headed post from (*kaff*kaff*) "lifelong conservatives" referring to our principled anti-abortion, pro-tax cut, pro-defense Republican president as a "socialist," "a "liberal" or a "treasonous anti-conservative war criminal," right here on an ostensibly conservative message board, either. Your point being what, precisely...?

I hope you are right. I have not seen the polls for weeks. Let's see what happens next week. Many people are not happy.

" In a perfect world, of course: the posting of this story would mean that all the online nellies, yellowbellies and faux "conservatives" all darting about on these boards and whinnying to the effect that "Bush is a war criminal from HELL!" and suchlike would finally just settle the @#$% down, for a moment or two; take a deep, communal breath; go to their respective Happy Places, within themselves; and cease embarrassing themselves (and this board) with their pop-eyed hysterics. "

That's a classic. Thanks.

I have no idea why Bush is doing this.

Something about securing a GOP majority in the House and Senate for the next 50 years.

It's a good idea

We could be looking at another 94. Bush has stepped into it big time, I've never seen the conservative base of the GOP this pissed off. They are pissed and this (amnasty to illegals) is the straw that broke them.

Please help me understand this. Leaders are suppose to lead. So should a leader put forth this crapola with the anticipation that another enity (Congress)will scrub it - - or does a leader put forth a program that protects & enhances Americans that can pass Congress? This proposal is not worth a 30 second thought. These trial balloons were a benchmark of the Klintoons. Why should this Cowboy incorporate their playbook? I say send all in Washington on the next 1 way voyage to Mars.

Gee whiz. I didn't know you were forced to read anyone's post--but my point is not obtuse. We can be civil in our disagreement of others' viewpoints.

"Ostensibly" conservative? That you find opinions on this issue in stark contrast to your own does not lessen the reality that this is a conservative message board, one that ALLOWS a diverse spectrum of opinion. Good night.

The last straw would be if he signs the extension to the assault weapons ban this year, as he has said he would. If there is anything that would piss off enough of the NRA vote to stay home instead of going to the polls and swing the election, that would. Someone needs to show Karl Rove the vote of the 2000 elections in Florida again before he advises GWB to keep ignoring concerns of the base vote.

"For I was a stranger and you welcomed me." (Matthew o25:35)

"Well, Mr. Ortiz, under the law I should find you guilty of breaking and entering the home of Mr. Jihad. The evidence well establishes the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. You certainly don't dispute it. But your testimony about how rudely Mr. Jihad treated you upon finding you hiding in his basement was most disturbing. Instead of making up a room for you and giving you the keys to his SUV and free access to his refrigerator, he angrily--ANGRILY--told you at the point of gun to 'freeze" and he called the police to arrest you and remove you from his home.

"That evidence, when examined in the light of the scripture from Matthew that you so eloquently recited to the court gives the incident a decidely different character. I am not persuaded by Mr. Jihad's lame excuses, particularly his assertion that his spare bedroom was being held for a stranger who had come to his door and asked for and received permission to stay overnight. You were already in the home; the stranger had not yet arrived. Mr. Jihad ought to have given you the room.

"Mr. Jihad, for the crime of unchristian behavior toward a burglar, this First Imperial Court, in the name of Caesar, sentences you to have the letter 'U' for 'unchristian' branded with a hot iron on your forehead. Shame on you, Mr. Jihad, shame on you!"
