MA DEAN: WE ALWAYS TREATED SERVANTS WELL--Reassuring Words From Howard's Haughty Mom!

Posted on 01/04/2004 2:28:55 PM PST by clintonbaiter

Democratic presidential front-runner Howard Dean may have grown up on tony Park Avenue and summered with the swells at East Hampton's then-whites-only Maidstone Club, but his mother, Andree Maitland Dean, insists her son's roots are practically working class.

"Howard didn't have the least bit of a glamorous upbringing," Ma Dean told the New York Times last week. "When I was growing up, we didn't even treat the servants like servants"....

"We didn't even treat servants like servants."

Then they called them friends (vs. servants) and didn't pay them and ate meals with them. Rights.

"Yes, there was sort of this casual racism, in terms of the racist expressions that were used by that generation," he told the Times. "But in all, I think my family was pretty open-minded about different kinds of people."

Dean's IQ here is double digit, but of course, so are the Deanie Babies.

Keep talking, Howie. Keep talking.

At this early stage it's likely that Dean enjoys support from those to his left who don't know the fine points of his proposals as well as they know the fine volleys of his rhetoric. In that sense, it's hard to imagine Dean's glorious season ending without disappointment. Either he will alienate the mainstream by tacking left in order to keep his troops in their combat sandals, or, more likely, they will shed a tear when they learn who he really is. Last week I asked Dean's mother Andree Maitland Dean of East Hampton, N.Y., whether her son is truly a liberal insurgent. "He's not really," she said. A beat passed, and she added with a chuckle, "I hope they don't find that out just yet."

He just needs a teeeeeeeensy bit more rope and a few more opportunities to speak, and well... does anyone else see a pattern of the Democrats not actually needing the Republicans' help to make them look stupid or to be covered in mud. This time around, the eloquent Dems seem to be so very capable of destroying themselves...it's a good thing too, since President Bush has enough to do these days without actively campaigning.

...and W isn't? So what?

The difference between Ma Dean and Ma Bush in this case is that Ma Bush has sense enough not to say out loud something as un PC as this. I don't know whether that is good or bad.

Stuff like this never sticks to Dems, sorry.

I recall Hillary remarking at a college commencement I think, during Bill's first term, that 'most people have to understand that janitors are people, too."

Now of course, most people perfectly understand that, but Hill thought it was some kind of breakthrough thinking or something. Go figure her out!

In any case, it was condescending and horribly patronizing, but it didn't stick. NYers can't get enough of her.

Of course, if a Republican made remarks like that, it would be open season on talking head shows of folks trying to divine 'exactly what she meant..."

So it turns out that Ma Dean is a democrat after all...

Here is the bottom line - Democrats do NOT believe that all people are equal. The believe and teach that some people are not "quite as good as us" and therefore we need laws to "help" these folks.

Understand, by "help" they don't mean allow them human dignity or the chance to some day live beside of wealthy, white democrats. No, that is out of the question. What they mean by help is an extension of the slavery tradition. Instead of slavery, they call it welfare or social security.

Welfare? No one fares well on welfare.

Social Security? Be secure in the knowledge that you will remain poor and your options will remain limited.

as you note, the difference between liberals and conservatives is that liberals believe most people are stupid and therefor need to be 'helped' by those who are more highly educated, whereas conservatives believe that most people are rational and therefor will act according to their self-interest.

So I guess unlike Sir Albert of Gore, Little Howard never had to sneak a sandwich to his servants while they sat sweating in the back seat of the family car on a sweltering summer afternoon.

How quaint.

iconoclast.ca is a well-known news satire site. Yet, the overwhelming majority of FReepers who responded to this post seem to think it's real. Maybe the folks at NewsMax.com made the same mistake?

Bottom line, I don't know. Maybe NewsMax.com got it first and iconoclast.ca assumed it was satire and carried it. All I was pointing out was this - iconoclast.ca is not a news site. Is NewsMax.com a news site? Now that's where things get really blurry. I'll let you figure that one out ;-)

Here's what Ma Dean told the NYTimes:

"When I was growing up," she said, "we didn't even treat the servants like servants."

Of course, later on when she was married, the servants had to sleep in the dining room cause none of the Deans were willing to give up a room so the hired help could have some privacy. They were too cheap to get a bigger place. Having the servants bed down in the dining room is the modern equilavent of having them sleep out in the barn. Of course, Manhattan apartments don't usually come w/ an attached barn, so what's a poor socialite to do?

And, we're supposed to assume that the servants of Ma Dean's youth weren't required to scrub out her poopy underwear or rub out those ugly heelmarks her little Cinderella sneakers left on those cozy marble floors...
