Sen. Collins says she’s leaning against voting for Graham-Cassidy health care bill
The Portland Press Herald ^ | September 22, 2017 | Joe Lawlor

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins all but said she would vote “no” on an Affordable Care Act repeal bill on Friday morning at an event in Portland.

“I’m leaning against the bill,” the Maine Republican said after listing a series of serious deficiencies in the Graham-Cassidy repeal bill.

“I’m just trying to do what I believe is the right thing for the people of Maine,” Collins said.

She said Graham-Cassidy undermines pre-existing conditions, a major flaw in the bill.

“I’m reading the fine print on Graham-Cassidy,” Collins said. She said insurers could charge sky-high rates to people with pre-existing conditions. “The premiums would be so high they would be unaffordable,”

This story will be updated.

Well, it’s all about how much to which states the block grants *are*. From what I’ve been able to discern, some states will get much less in funding than they had been getting. Any info appreciated, work is super busy so trying to research the specifics is a bit beyond me right now

Whither McCain?

And Murkowski. And Capito. This removes the money for opioid treatment and West Virginia Medicaid that bought Capito's vote the last time around.

I think the minute we have three declared no votes you'll have three or four other announce they're voting against it too.

The medicaid expansion is the worst single thing in Obamacare. A huge increase in the dependency/entitlement state. It’s single payer, except we pay and Obama’s people get free health care.

Plus, they use Medicaid as the entry drug for government dependency. If you qualify for Medicaid, you are immediately slotted into food stamps, you get an Obamaphone and they try and get you on every kind of welfare they can.

So even if this bill is otherwise crap, if it gets rid of the Medicaid expansion, it’s a start that takes a huge bite out of Obama’s dependency state.

“I’m reading the fine print on Graham-Cassidy,” Collins said.

Don't believe that for a second.

Anyway, I thought these people had to pass legislative items first, in order to know what's in them.

Their reasons for voting to kill this bill are wrong, as usual, but I’ll be glad if it fails. Gov’t has NO place butting its nose into our personal health care. It’s just plain unconstitutional. Repeal O’Care and be done with it.

Go cash only or buy private insurance like for home and auto. Easy solution. But no, Gov’t want to control and ration our personal healthcare.

Ocare will implode as soon as DJT stops approving the subsidizing funds currently propping it up. I hope it’s soon.

She’s not “leaning” anything. She’s a no and she has been from the beginning. Lisa M, Collins, Paul and McCain have been a “no” from the beginning. They only support it when they know it won’t pass.

This is the DNC wing of the GOP telling the DNC supporters not to bother.

and this is why Trump is for Strange in Alabama. How many people do we need to die on their sword because they can’t get everything they want?

They knew from the beginning that they didn’t have the votes but because Trump had the country focused on Tax Reform they brought this up as a distraction.

I’d say cut a bunch from Alaska and Maine and give it to manchin’s state and maybe North Dakota see if you can flip them. It’s dirty but oh well, they’d be so mad it’d be worth it.

This is no great surprise since she voted for cloture on obamacare.

one of the things most people don’t understand about Medicaid is that it is not insurance. if you use it the state has a claim on everything you own after you die to recoup what ever was spent on medical bills. so if you have a house that you want to leave to your kids the state can take it to pay for the medical bills. for a great majority on Medicaid this is a great deal because they are destitute but for the working poor that had there insurance removed because the employer decided to have only part time employees this is bad because the medical bills will take everything they hope to pass on to there children.

ACA dies, medicaid expansion dies. Today 19 states do not participate in medicaid expansion.
Prior to ACA, Feds funded medicaid at about 50%. It’s now 100%, however, now through 2020 the feds will reduce their participation to 90%

medical personnel can’t live off of medicaid reimbursements, which is(are) usually late and in arrears in some states. (Illinois as an example)
Medicaid expansion didn’t increase Dr. participation rate. More people chasing less Doctors = longer wait times for medical care.

this thing “should” collapse under it’s own wait.(We thought Medicare would ) Better now under ACA, than later.

Because the ACA is FAR MORE than the exchanges.

1) The ACA expanded medicaid (ie you aren't with an insurer, the gov is the payer) by as many people that are on the exchanges. So even if the exchanges fail, we're still picking up the tab for another 10-11 million on medicaid

2) The ACA individual mandate will still stand for people who have access to healthcare plans through work (vast majority of Americans), forcing them to buy insurance even if they don't want it, or pay the ACA tax

3) The ACA also requires EMPLOYER mandate and that will still stand. If you have more than 50 employees you are REQUIRED to offer them healthcare. So many on this board are only focused on the 3.5% of the population the ACA effected (the exchanges) and not everyone else. Drives me nuts.

Did she include a “why” in her statement, other than the “people pf Maine” cop out? How would it harm the people of Maine?

States that expanded medicaid already, in general, will get less. States that hadn’t expanded medicaid, will obviously get more. Alaska either doesn’t change or get better to effectively bribe Lisa’s vote.

Understand, so you can avoid the ups and downs associated with hope, the R’s will never repeal Obamacare, cause they’ll own the results, and one universal Truth about the Loser party is they are cowards. They’re gonna do nothing on healthcare, taxes, or infrastructure spending either because it gives Trump and therefore u and me wins, and therefore power. The R’s are for the uniparty and deeply regret losing their safe position as the lying minority party begging for funding from us, to save us. TRump’s win exposed them for their lies and hypocrisy, also a very good chance the R’s lose Congress next year, and that’ll be fine with the leadership, establishment wins.

This isn't the first time that these DIABLO senators have saved us from another debacle, even if they do it for all the wrong reasons.
