Romney calls on Trump to apologize over Charlottesville comments

Mitt Romney called on President Donald Trump Friday to apologize for his comments about Charlottesville, Virginia, saying the President’s remarks this week “caused racists to rejoice.”

“The potential consequences are severe in the extreme,” Romney wrote in a Facebook post. “Accordingly, the president must take remedial action in the extreme. He should address the American people, acknowledge that he was wrong, apologize.”

He said that Trump’s remarks — in which he blamed “both sides” for inciting violence, an equivocation between neo-Nazis and those protesting them — had a hurtful impact on the nation.

“Whether he intended to or not, what he communicated caused racists to rejoice, minorities to weep, and the vast heart of America to mourn,” Romney wrote. “His apologists strain to explain that he didn’t mean what we heard. But what we heard is now the reality, and unless it is addressed by the president as such, with unprecedented candor and strength, there may commence an unraveling of our national fabric.

Romney also called this a “defining moment” for Trump.....

APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT?

Both sides where at fault. The ones protecting the monument was asked to leave and did. Then again Mittens you are on the antifa side, you proved that when you purposely lost to obama.

“Romney should apologize to republicans for being so inept.”

Romney should apologize for pretending to be a Republican.

People who are whistling past the graveyard when it comes to the inevitable impeachment (and removal from office) of Trump, need to look at things like this. Romney is not an aberration when it comes to elected Republicans. He may speak freely now, since doing so wins him the adoration of the only people he cares about, and makes him a hero in the liberal enclaves that he frequents, but there is no question that a) he would vote for impeachment/removal were he a congressman/senator, respectively; and b) his now-public rhetoric is similar to the now-private rhetoric of at least half of the Republican senators.

"We might've dodged a bullet in 2012." True, but we are now facing heavy weapons. They are going to impeach Trump on ambiguous, unproveable (and indefensible) "charges", and they are going to declare these "high crimes" (since there is no judicial review, or any other recourse, the only people whose opinions matter line the halls of the house and the senate), and they are going to remove him. (In fact, I suspect that the reason they have stopped pushing the Russia meme is not just because there is nothing there -- it is also because any charges wouldn't be vague enough).

People like Romney would gladly trade a job in the Senate or the House for an opportunity to be a hero to the only types of people they care about, and a 7/8 figure salary as compensation. The only question is: what are the 70 million people who support Trump going to do about it?

If only 5% of the Trump supporters showed up on the Mall or Capitol they’d back down so fast you’d think they never opposed Trump in the first place. And if you think they won’t, remember this: Hardly any Confederate soldiers ever owned a slave, yet they fought four long, bloody years for the South. And they didn’t have modern automobiles, trains or aircraft to take them to where the fight was.

Romney needs to apologize for ever participating for even one minute in presidential politics.

Mr. Romney. You are totally wrong on this issue. We have sat by and allowed the radical violent protests by the left for too long. In these cases I always supported a peaceful protestor’s right to speak. When it turns violent because of wrongful actions by the mayor, and governor, then you are picking on the wrong side.

Thanks for link. Here is what I sent Romnet:

“Please stop trying to tell the President, a position you so badly failed to attain, to apologize for comments about Charlottesville. He was correct and truthful. I do however understand your unfamiliarity with that concept. President Trump does not owe anyone an apology. You on the other hand should apologize to every conservative for running such a weak candidacy and giving us four more years of Obama. Face it, your 15 minutes have long passed. Please show some dignity and disappear. The only people who want to hear from you are the liberal media who know you can always be counted on to stab your party members in the back.”

He's also calling for President Trump to strap a few dogs to the roof of his limo.

The dogs should be safe now that former president puppy eater is no longer in office.

Another jerk who never bothered to LISTEN to Trump’s comments on the matter. Trump stated facts the good guys and the bad guys on both sides of the violence.

I don’t know about that. Better to know who’s an asshole and fight that fight, than one you think isn’t one, and he turns out to be.
