I agree with Ed that the basket of deplorables comment is a dumb thing to say, even as a gloss on Clintons alt-right speech a few weeks ago. Its especially dumb to quantify the critique by categorizing half of Trumps supporters that way. Mock your opponent all you want, a Times reporter noted, but you mock the electorate at your peril. The fact that she said it at a fundraiser, not a public rally, also makes it smell like a screw-up. Romney was at a fundraiser in 2012 when he uttered his line about the 47 percent; Obama was at a fundraiser in 2008 when he babbled about the bitter-clingers. Candidates have a habit of letting down their guards at those events, partly because they want to flatter the prejudices of people whom theyre hitting up for money and party because theyre less conscious of being on camera and feel theyre able to speak more freely. Its not surprising that Hillary would casually demean Trump backers before a private audience of LGBT Democrats.
But what if this wasnt a casual, off-the-cuff gaffe revealing what she really thinks about her opponents base? What if this is a message shes trying to circulate? My pal Karl notes this snippet from her interview on Israeli TV a few days ago repeating the deplorables line (although without the bit about them being half of Trumps constituency).[continued]

Cattle Car Hillary was signaling her followers what to be ready; strong medicine will be theirs to dispense next January.
Did she read it off the TelePrompTer
Both Barama’s bitter clinger remark, and Mitten’s 47 didn’t produce the absolute farcical responses. The first two remarks were annoying. There is so much fun to be had with this. Were there any bitter clinger clubs or 47% clubs? No. But, I for one am a joyous deplorable! This is such an opening.
I think its a clever turn of phrase. We should put it on teeshirts and wear it. “Basket of Deplorables, Coming to Make America Great Again...”
Yes. She secured Barbra’s vote.
Yeah it was intentional
She has to do something to fire up her base
I know exactly what happened— If you watch the earlier time she said it— she said essentially “the baskets were in two groups” but in her mind she was thinking half and half.. When she got to the fundraiser and had some drinks or medicine she got confused about this line and instead of saying two groups she said half of Trump supporters..
In the sense that she shoved not one but both teats in the wringer, yeah...
Very strange world we live in when the normal people who make the country work are deplorable and every deviant is glorified.
The line is a moneymaker and that is what she is all about. The Election will take care of itself, or rather, Soros and some suborned ITs will take care of that.
Piss poor strategy. She sounds more salty than the presidential sounding Trump
That she apologized next day shows it not a tactical ploy.
Huge backfire. Her targets are embracing it.
It’s not at all clever. What does basket have to do with people? Baskets are not used for people unless we’re talking about babies being left on doorways in the 18th century! And I doubt the brilliant Hillary was referring to that.
And that’s the point: Hillary has no talent for wordplay or anything else. Trump has. He would never have used this clunky phrase. He’s a wit.
I hope Trump goads her into a temper-tantrum meltdown at the debates. She has a lots of hate in her, it has to come out somewhere.
This really isn’t any different from what Democrats have been saying since 2007. Basically all conservatives are racist, sexist, homophobic, etc, etc. This is just a new spin on the old mantra.
I've said for over a year,
Hillary ain't runnin' !
And the more I see and hear and watch her (what little she does), shows an insincere effort at best to really be the President.
I'm back to normal ...
HILLARY AIN'T RUNNIN'
It’s an Alinsky tactic to dehumanize one’s opponent.
