AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - In finishing the Republican presidential race well ahead of Donald Trump's other rivals, Ted Cruz is likely to be a leading GOP voice for the foreseeable future.

Less clear is whether Cruz harnesses that clout to help Trump win the White House or whether he simply solidifies his place as a champion of conservative causes, Senate troublemaker and star of Texas politics.

Cruz is being talked about as a leader of the national conservative movement, and he has an unmatched organization in Texas....

CLOUT???

This idiot would be lucky if he keeps his Senate seat, considering how willing he was to scuttle this election in the Democrat’s and GOPe’s favor!

I see a bright future of personal injury lawyer commercials in the greater Houston area in the near future.

Gets old. Cruz has destroyed his career in the short term.

Maybe after a lot of mea culpas and humility, he could possibly resurrect himself. God knows Newt did. Nixon did. But in the short term, he saw his poll numbers go from the mid-30s and leads in many states like IN to low 20s and massive blowouts. It now looks like Trump will win Nebraska, which Cruz had a complete lock on.

Cruz screwed himself by running a very nasty campaign, rather than one of optimism, vision, and hope. Had he done that, indeed he would be one to watch.

Cruz would be a great replacement for Scalia.

He would get overwhelming support getting confirmed by the senate. His peers would love to get rid of him.

I love how the press likes to tell us who our leaders are/will be, even in the face of Trump’s victory.
Tells you how deep the manipulation and corruption runs.
This will only get worse as those “in power” become desperate to hold on to it.

I disagree with the first two post.

Cruz will win reelection to the senate in a landslide in 2018.

Barring any huge mistakes, he has a long political career ahead of him.

Trump was not just being nice when he said that on Tuesday night, Trump was telling the truth.

He needs a clean break from the Bush crowd. His ties with their political machine didn’t help him in this presidential race.

yeah - maybe not - this guy burned all bridges and is reviled by most except the ardent supporter who finds his ideology to the Right of Christ Himself

I supported him out of the gate, but imo he played too dirty for me

That's not to say I find the schoolyard drubbings by Trump enchanting, by any means & am glad he has redirected it to Hillary

You’re an optimistic guy :) That’s a good trait.

all his gaffes will be forgotten as time goes by and he will be remembered as a good challenger but that’s not going to happen today or tomorrow.

Still good SC pick.
