"I don’t see a lot of how Ted can win. In 3 weeks Ted with have no path remaining to a clean nomination. None. 0. "

Chris Stirewalt gave one such plan last night. It was "win on the first ballot". If rule 40 is in play, the only two candidates nominated on the first ballot will be Trump and Cruz. No one else will be in play. There can be no votes for Rubio or Kasich. All Cruz has to do is convince their delegates, and the uncommitted delegates to vote for him, and viola!, a first ballot win. Rubio may even agree to this. Who knows about Kasich.

That’s not a clean nomination where the candidate earned 1237 before Cleveland.

The point is that no one is likely to enter the convention with a majority - in which case, the convention will choose. That is how it works. That is how it has always worked. That is also why we have a representative democracy in the USA instead of direct democracy.

Think about the Electoral College. Then tell me why having a convention is wrong.

“Ted Cruz will be mathematically eliminated by April 26.”

Really? Trump will have a majority of delegates by 26 April?

>>>So, this must mean that Cruz is favored to win New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island...right?

Yippee!!! Our nominee is going to be bolstered going into the convention by the left-leaning northeastern states!

Something for EVERY conservative on FR to be proud of I'm sure!!!

What I am saying is simply this...

By the end of this month, Cruz will have 0 chance to earn 1237 through the electoral process. None.

That said:
He has, several times, called on other candidates to drop out when they no longer have a path to the delegates required. He even calls on them to ‘prayerfully consider’ their decision.

Once Ted can no longer achieve the number, will he follow his own advice?

“He has, several times, called on other candidates to drop out when they no longer have a path to the delegates required.”

He has called on them to unite around him, as the one most likely to stop Trump. But there is no requirement to drop out OR to unite around Cruz. This is likely to go to an open convention, and then the convention will do what conventions do - pick a candidate.

Until one candidate has a majority of votes, no one is eliminated. I suspect Kasich will run to the end. That is OK.

Not to mention that Cruz has to get about 90% of the remaining delegates. It is mathematically impossible for Cruz to win enough delegates before the convention.

I saw a Fox pundit this morning crunching the numbers and he thought that Trump would come up about 50 short. And that was speculation.

It’s a contested convention whether you like it or not.

It's going to feel odd in the voting booth in November. I haven't voted straight Democrat since 1968.

He can not win the nomination on the first ballot. Once that happens, traditionally, non-sore Cruserman candidates drop out.

But the GOP-e will do ANYTHING to stay in power, even partner with Ted Cruz.

same old question, how in Sam Hill is Cruz going to get 700 more delegates? and if the Trump-won delegates he’s working are so fickle that they would change from Trump to Cruz, I wouldn’t trust them to stay with Cruz should the wind blow in a different direction

The ignorance is astonishing.

Hmmmm...so getting folks who don’t like you to vote for you is evil. The idea that Ted Cruz is GOP-E is laughable to any sane person.

I wouldn’t count on all those PA delegates. Only 17 are bound on the first ballot. The other 54 are free to vote their conscience.

You didn't read the article.

You didn't even read the excerpt.

I voted for Cruz here in NH, but as of right now, if it went to a brokered convention, I think Cruz is mistaken if he thinks the establishment gets behind him. The GOPe will pull out every dirty trick known to man to install one of their own.

The worst thing that is going to happen to Trump is that he will be a few votes short after the June 7th last primary and he will cut a deal with Kasich, Cruz or Rubio before the convention so that he wins on the first ballot.

That being said it won’t stop the crazy chattering class from creating hysteria every night on TV and in print journal.

Did I say that Cruz was GOP-e? No, I said that the GOP-e is so desperate that they are partnering with Cruz to take out Trump so that they keep their little jobs.

As far as I am concerned, what they are doing is an affront to the political process.

“what they are doing is an affront to the political process”

What they are doing is what politicians have been doing since before the USA existed - making alliances and trying to find a solution that gets more than 50% support.

Trumps advantage is that he never has to compromise, since he doesn’t hold any beliefs to start with. He can simply change to whatever he needs at the moment. Having no principles at all is hardly more noble than compromising to advance your cause as far as it can go on a given day.

BTW - what WAS Trump doing when he praised DeBlasio in 2013? Or Obama? Hmmm?

Cannot see where any excited girlies would be excited over any possibility with a VP Beck or SOS Beck if Cruz makes it into office. That’s just too mind numbing to comprehend. Sure Trump has his quirks, but none are named Glen Beck.
