In DC Simulation, Trump and Cruz Bolt GOP, Form New Ticket

This week, in a simulation of the coming July GOP convention, the tumultuous 2016 election took a theoretical new twist. At a meeting of the prestigious legal society, Inn of Court, attendees were randomly assigned to play the roles of real estate mogul Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (TX-R), Gov. John Kasich (OH-R) and The Republican National Committee.

What emerged was the jarring image of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz forming an independent Trump-Cruz ticket. The match was made when RNC players issued late-hour rulings that favored John Kasich's nomination.

True to the gridlock era, no team appeared to win. Donald Trump bolted the party he pledged to support -- and with a VP pick he has cast as a liar. Ted Cruz, a chagrined man-in-the-middle, salvaged his campaign and political career to join a high-risk third party ticket. John Kasich presumably prevailed as the GOP nominee, though only the favorite of a devastated and depleted Republican party. And while the RNC stood by its brand and principles, it could only watch as the Trump and Cruz teams ceremoniously walked out of the pretend convention.

The game, conducted at the U.S. Patent Office in Alexandria, VA, merged the time-honored four-player U.S. Department of Defense wargame format with The Standard Table of Influence, a landmark classification system of 24 unique stratagems in communication, social media, marketing, sales, politics, law and the military....

You’d have Trump/Cruz vs. the commie/? vs. Biden/? vs. ?/Kasich. In a four way contest, it might go to the House. Trump/Cruz would pull most of the Republican vote along with significant parts of the Democrat and independent vote.

We’re heading into uncharted territory if Trump doesn’t pull a majority of the delegates. So far, it looks like he will.

Thought for you, Silver.
Suspicion here is that this raging and neurotic animus toward Trump is driven by a cold realization from the R Est; that his ascension means their end as a party. Any opinion?

Huma hasn’t got her “Come to Jesus” call yet. That’s not due for over a month. We haven’t seen the fallout from Pagliano either.

...2016 election took a theoretical new twist

And that's the way it will stay...theoretical! Especially after Cruz said that Trump is .."inciting riots."

Why would they bolt the party they absolutely own?

They absolutely own the voters. Never confuse the party with the people.

But this is a temporary situation and once that is secured, Cruz will fall back out of the good graces.

You are exactly right they will stab him in the back. I hope he see whats coming and has a plan to screw up their plan.

Their party ended when they foisted that colorless stiff Romney on us and tossed the election to the worst president in US history

But we stuck with it and gave them the House and Senate, only to be stabbed in the back yet again by the good ol’ boy club... we got a GOP House and Senate and we still got Obamacare, 19 trillion in debt, people dyng for nothing in Iraq and Afghanistan, and lawless mobs taking over entire cities while they wring their hands to not offend them

They kept telling us the only way the party would survive was to pander to illegals, and they tried to foist Yeb on us because he has a Mexican wife and speaks Mexican

Apparently the illegal cheap labor express RomneyBushes or even threatening to "vote for Hillary" is preferable to embracing a guy like Trump who has opened the tent up wide to independents and disillusioned democrats (of all races) beginning to see the light on their corrupt ineffective party

Ted Cruz is going to get eaten by the wolves over his eligibility and a thousand other lawsuits over ethics, PAC finances, etc etc, just like the democrats did to Palin, and they will just wring their hands because after all, for them, Hillary isn't so bad and maybe they can run George P Bush in 8 years

SDV,
As much as I like you and find you to be an overall good guy, this scenario is a bad idea. The same scene crossed my mind 6 or more months ago. Since then a number of factors raised the head and the eyes. First, third party would lose. If we had a third party in place prior, that circumstance might have a chance. Now -I have been told would be too little too late and the Dem candidate would win by a bunch.
Second, the two could find themselves at odds over proper positions on the third party ticket.
Third, Why would Trump tie himself to someone who is not even eligible to hold the position?

Sorry, big guy Can’t accept the premise; but, thank you for the article.

...people dyng for nothing in Iraq and Afghanistan...

I think I know what you mean, but those who died there died for the soldiers next to them. Like Vietnam, as much as I hate to say it, the politicians have yanked defeat from the jaws of a military victory.

Ted Cruz is going to get eaten by the wolves over his eligibility and a thousand other lawsuits over ethics, PAC finances, etc etc, just like the democrats did to Palin, and they will just wring their hands because after all, for them, Hillary isn't so bad...

The unfortunate part is that the lion's share of that is either coming from Trump supporters or a clever astroturf of them. The thought that Sarah might support such is a grave disappointment.

Did they include the HUGE LAWSUITS that Trump is almost bound to file against the people who schemed against his presidential run?
