Stopping Trump: The Nuclear Option
The Politico ^ | February 25, 2016 | Jeff Greenfield

Posted on 02/26/2016 8:09:07 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Here's what Republicans would need to do to stop their own front-runner--and what they'd destroy if they failed.

It wasn't so long ago that the political universe was licking its collective chops over the prospect of a contested Republican convention, a delegate fight that went all the way to July without a nominee. Now, with Donald Trump notching his most decisive primary win yet--and looking to pick off several more on Super Tuesday--we're hearing that the contest will be over by the Ides of March. That means Trump could walk away with a nomination that almost no traditional Republicans ever wanted to see happen.

What could stop him? So far, his opponents have barely made a dent in The Donald. There's a good chance the race will be over unless the Republican Party establishment and its conservative core do something that neither party has ever done: gather the forces, pool their money, and train all their collective firepower against their own front-runner....

...gather the forces, pool their money, and train all their collective firepower against their own front-runner....

Not worth the click.

They already did that. Fail.

The GOPe, the liberal left, and the Washington Insiders are all scared to death of Trump...They are all afraid he’ll take away their gravy train...

They better start being scared to death of the common, everyday American if they screw the country up any more than they already have...

They aren’t worried about bit about Cruz. They know they could easily defeat him, recruit him etc.

Won’t work. These dweebs fail to understand that the reason people are supporting Trump is because they do not want what the present-day Republican party stands for.

Why is the GOP working to stop the front runner in their own party, a front runner that has brought out many, many new voters and is packing nearly every venue with thousands of cheering supporters.

So glad I left the GOP, no longer a republican. Gave up on them a few elections back when they went into attack mode against a candidate I liked.

GOP is a terrible disgusting political party.

Sundance:

It cannot be overstated how significant the concerns of the RNC/GOPe must be. They must be apoplectic, heck, beyond apoplectic, with a realization that Christie was not who they thought him to be all along. We can be certain the RNC/GOPe phones and emails are still in full meltdown mode.
One of the more consequential realities (what helps prove the thesis) is when you remember how importantly loyalty is viewed by Donald Trump. For the GOPe to now contemplate Chris Christie might have been part of that Trump inner circle all along is almost unfathomable.

These people are pathetic.

This nonsense will only harden the support for Trump.

While I have seen a couple weaknesses in Mr Trump’s campaign... (like hiring illegal workers and claiming Americans don’t want to work)... the fact is that he’s on the road to victory...and the more that the GOP-E tries to sabotage the leading candidate in the GOP primaries.... the more irrelevant the GOP-E makes itself

If Mr. Trump secures the nomination, he won’t just “work with the GOP’E”... he’ll flush them

Kind of ironic that the GOPe now threatens to go third party and after breaking their pledge to be fair.

OK. I didn’t read the second page, but it looks like just more of the same ol’ same ol’ that hasn’t worked yet.

Bring out Romney and W? Are they truly that disconnected to reality in 2016? That will only HELP Trump.

You'd call it 2008 and 2012...

In the movie, “Frankenstein”, remember the look on Dr. Frankenstein’s face when the villagers advanced on his castle with pitchforks and torches?

That’s what Washington Insiders are gonna look like if they keep up their sh*t....

Problem is the GOP establishment has no credible alternative to Trump.

There is no one on the political horizon with his breadth and depth of support. If there was one, Trump would have been stopped months ago.

And if the GOP establishment wants to destroy the party in order to save it, I wouldn’t mind.

trump will flush the GOP-E machine people...and with the voter’s wild support....since they’ve been trying to sabotage his candidacy... the GOP-E forgets that the party belongs to the voters ... it is NOT supposed to be a little private country-club fiefdom
