Ted Cruz Won’t Be Denied
The New York Times ^ | February 6, 2016 | Frank Bruni

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- ANOTHER Ted Cruz rally, another Ted Cruz rant about the media's failure to give him his due. I endured one in the tiny town of Weare, N.H., on Thursday afternoon and had two thoughts.

The first was that I'd seldom heard a voice as ripe with self-regard -- as juicy with it -- as his. He's pomposity's plum tomato.

The second thought was that he's right.

We've sold him short. We continue to underestimate him. He's even craftier than we appreciated. He's more devious than we realized.

And he has a better chance to win the Republican nomination than we want to admit, because he's not just a preternaturally slick political animal. He's an uncommonly lucky one.

He's getting huge, unintended breaks from Republican elders and rivals who mostly detest him and rightly believe that he'd lead the party to ruin in a general election but are distracted by other quarry -- Donald Trump, Marco Rubio -- and are letting him slither by.

At first Trump was their obsession. The self-appointed caretakers of conservatism at National Review went so far as to pack the sum of their energies and anxieties into an entire issue devoted to taking down Trump, even though their readers aren't his supporters and their exertions only underscored his pitch that he's not part of the system....

Ted Cruz is inevitable and ineluctable, for he is God’s chosen and anointed. He simply cannot fail to win.

Talk about purple prose! The pathetic writer of this exercise in high dudgeon should have started with,”It was a dark and stormy night” to improve the piece. Were Cruz to win the presidency, there would be heads exploding across the fruited plain.

"Rightly" my eye. The "elders" would rather trot out a million McCains and Romneys (RINO losers) than even one real conservative winner.

Clearly hated by the New York Slimes. What’s not to like? This is the paper of record that kissed up to Stalin.

Cruz still didn’t answer the question why the campaign didn’t call Carson direct about if he were dropping out.
He didn’t directly answer the first question either. Politics as usual. Weaseling out.

The first (thought) was that I'd seldom heard a voice as ripe with self-regard - as juicy with it - as He's pomposity's plum tomato. ...Said Frank Bruni pomposity's juicy melon.

This election is shaping up as the one that irony forgot. Maybe it is just that NY values strike with ad hominem that describes the speaker much better than their target.

Cruzs answer, or non answers to the first two questions were the same kind of cr@p we have grown sick of.

Why should Cruz’s people contact Carson direct? Carson’s acting as if Cruz’s people were sneaking around behind his back, which is ridiculous. It’s a caucus; anything Cruz’s people said was said, not just in public, but directly to the Carson supporter’s face.

What’s funny is that what happened with Carson’s wife is what would have happened anywhere Cruz’s people made this claim — the claim was instantly refuted, the voters knew Carson’s people were wrong, and that was the end of it.

I don’t know if Cruz is above dirty politics, but I do believe that if he came up with an Evil Plan, it would be a smarter one.

..Why should Cruz’s people contact Carson direct...

Because that was such a stunning turn of events that it was shocking. Cruz campaign did the same thing the MSM does, run with something before finding out if it is correct. Carson said tonight that his campaign denied it within one minute. Pathetic.

Whichever Republican wins the nomination will get the Sarah Palin treatment.

Do you remember that? I was watching with my daughters as McCain announced the VP pick In 2008. The three of us were ecstatic once we found out who Sarah Palin was.

Do you remember what happened to Sarah Palin after that? She was so thoroughly eviscerated by the MSM that now even my daughters think she is a joke.

You must expect the same treatment from the MSM once the Republican nominee is chosen for 2016. You have to ask yourself, which of our current candidates can withstand this?

Both Trump and Cruz will receive the same treatment that Sarah Palin received. But in their cases, the treatment won’t be coming from the MSM alone - they’ll get the same treatment from the GOPe! There will be piling on from all directions.

I love Ted Cruz, and always have, and always will. But you have to ask yourself which candidate will have the best chance to survive this treatment.

I say it is Trump, beyond a shadow of a doubt!

Vet seems obsessed with Cruz. He ignores Cruz’s disregard for America’s unemployed, kabuki dance on trade which will harm the country more and enrichvCruz’s donors. There is more, but this is enough.
