Why Trump Was Smart to Skip the Next Debate
Political Wire ^

Donald Trump’s decision to skip the next debate marked yet another unexpected twist in his presidential campaign but probably a very smart political decision.

Trump’s conflict with Fox News started after Trump began bashing moderator Megyn Kelly, whose questions in the first GOP debate he said were unfair. But it quickly turned into the entire network mocking him.

When Trump polled his Twitter followers about whether he should participate, Fox News put out a news release mocking him:

“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.”

That jab was too much and Trump followed his own negotiating advice from The Art of the Deal and walked away from the table. After spending most of his campaign arguing that the world laughs at President Obama because he is a terrible negotiator, it was really Trump’s only move.

Ted was spotted tonight, his saliva moistened finger held out the wind, waiting to see which way the wind is blowing.

I would love to see other nominees follow suit and refuse to participate in the debate...sort of all for one and one for all. But it won’t happen.

Bad analogy. This is not a job interview, more like a marketing contest with a few planned question and answer sessions mixed in.

I disagree Chris37,I am inclined to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. He has shocked everyone holding on for 7 months and I don’t think he screws it up now.Faux snooze will suffer some serious butthurt.

Who took a Twitter poll to decide whether to debate or not?

And the terms were “changed” by Fox in an unmistakable manner that can not be ignored. Sounds like a “breach of contract” to me, and why should he submit himself to such a blatantly obvious ambush?

Same old MO by the media, and they got called out for it.

Good!

I don’t think it is a bad analogy.

It definitely is a job interview on a national scale.

Let me ask you, if on the last episode of the season, The Apprentice fails to show to the final meeting with Donald Trump, what does Trump tell The Apprentice?

Fox is dead to me so is Megyn Kelly. Haven’t watched either since August. One America News is my go-to channel for news now.

Maybe you are right. Perhaps it doesn’t hurt him at all.

I think it’s a risk.

You show up, and you hit the interview out of the park. Then you are untouchable.

If he fails to show, he’s leaving his flank exposed.

Trump’s personality is head and shoulders above Murdoch. No match at all.
