Ted Cruz will be the GOP presidential nominee (or so goes today's story line): Ted Cruz in the news
The Cleveland Plain Dealer ^ | November 25, 2015 | Stephen Koff, Washington Bureau Chief

Today's Ted Cruz news: It's official: With his rise in Iowa, Ted Cruz -- in a statistical tie with Donald Trump in the Hawkeye state -- is the man of the hour, the likely Republican nominee for president. So goes today's story line. If you like Cruz, the conservative Texas U.S. senator's ascension will be pleasing, although the manner in which he is described won't.

If you dislike him, you'll cheer the way he is described. And just to spoil the party a wee bit, we'll add a historical note: At this point in the 2012 GOP race, Newt Gingrich was at the top of the polls nationally.

But politics can surprise you, so onward with Ted Cruz news:

First, from Paul Waldman, a senior writer at the American Prospect who wrote in the Washington Post's Plum Line blog: Ted Cruz could actually be the Republican nominee for president....

I remember something similar being said about Santorum and Huckabee. He is neither of them, of course. I like Ted too. But, overconfidence can be dangerous.

Cruz may indeed be the high delegate man after the Primaries, but I doubt he will be the nominee. The RNC has control of that and the RNC is not keen on Cruz, or Trump, or anyone but Bush or possibly Rubio if the Bush family agrees.

First Bush, then Fiorina, then Carson, now Cruz... maybe yes and maybe no! What’s next?

Meanwhile back on the ranch of reality, Trump brings them in by the 10s of thousands daily.

I like Ted but he’s getting ready to start hitting Trump on his immigration “tone” a sure loser. He’s not higher than 10% in the national polls and in most he is still 7%-8.5% so he has a long way to go to top Trump.

If Cruz or Trump win the necessary delegates in the primaries and caucuses, and the GOP denies then the nomination you can kiss the Republican Party officially goodbye from being a nationally viable political entity. If four million conservatives stayed home you can double maybe triple that number in the next election if this scenario occurs.

What’s 10,000 actual humans at a rally when you can rely on a 5,000 word opinion piece from some random guy telling you what “reality” is?

The media hand wringing is amusing. Their lack of ability to control/influence the process as they have in the past is driving them nuts. As the media and polling firms lose their clout, the mechanics of American politics changes . It’s already obvious GOPe hasn’t been able to adapt quickly enough. The candidate(s) who do are now the ones in the drivers seat. Until the next big change comes along...

When today’s Reuter’s rolling poll is filtered by likely gop primary voters it is Trump 33% and Cruz 21%.
I would not have known except back to back posts on FR showed the two different sets of numbers, I had to investigate why.

I would not be surprised if Cruz is the nominee. I think he is doing everything right. He is steadily creeping up in the polls. He is not shooting himself in the foot with stupid statements. He reminds me of a football team with a great quarterback who is losing the game until the fourth quarter. He keeps hanging around and creeping up in the polls. He reminds me of Brett Farve leading a fourth quarter drive.

Actually, it was Kasich before first debate, Fiorina after first debate, Rubio after second debate, Carson in between 2nd and 3rd debates, Christie after 3rd debate, Rubio part II, now Cruz. I imagine Christie will get another looksee and Rubio will be the eventual GOPe push by the beltway and media.

He had 14,400 in Ohio two nights ago.

I expect it to happen. I hope that both Trump and Cruz are already organizing throughout the country for that eventuality and can go third new party with all cylinders firing.

Marco Rubio is ready to correct your mistaken assumptions.

I hope they push Rubio. He is illegal immigration 2.0.

That should push Trump over 40%.

... overconfidence can be dangerous.

I am wholeheartedly behind Cruz, but I expect all hell to rally against him. He is the biggest threat that has been seen for decades, maybe a century to the liberal and establishment "gains". In the general the democrats sure won't be able to get people to vote for Hillary, but they will try with all their corrupt might to get folks to vote against a proven conservative. It is not overconfidence, but a rising hope that the national nightmare might end and a real constitutional reformation might take place. We know that under a Cruz presidency the GOPe, the media and the democrats will fight him for their own survival. No it is not cockiness at all, but hope that the nation has a champion for the cause of liberty who is up to the task and who has finally engaged the enemies.

Go Cruz!
