Washington (CNN)âTed Cruz has replaced Ben Carson as Donald Trump's chief GOP presidential primary rival in Iowa.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows that Trump is the Republican presidential front-runner in the early voting state, with 25% support among GOP voters likely to participate in Iowa's February 1 caucuses.
But Cruz, the Texas senator, has moved into second place with 23% support -- double the backing he had just four weeks ago. Carson has fallen to third at 18% support, down 10 percentage points from his first-place perch a month ago when he led Trump, 28% to 20%.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is in fourth place with 13% support -- the only other candidate in double digits in Tuesday's poll....

They are wanting to pit the two guys who like each other against one another
Mr. Cruz seems to like everyone. At least I have not heard him belittle or make fun of anyone.
It will be interesting to see how Trump deals with it. Up till now there’s been a hands-off policy between the two. Will Trump unleash the attack dogs now?
I like Cruz, but I think the Enemy Media is lying in order to divide the conservative votes in Iowa.
Divide and conquer.
I don't understand your "they." It's in the nature of the race for the nomination that candidates are competing against one another. Trump and Cruz are both competing for delegates, so naturally they are rivals, in that sense.
A caucus is different from a primary.
Not rivals.
Sorry, MSM. Go get a real fight between Hillary and Sanders.
I’m talking about the establishment republicans and the media want Cruz and Trump to tear each other to pieces. Have you noticed Bush is nowhere to be found?
I just heard Jonah Goldberg say something funny on Fox. They were discussing the change in the Iowa polls and Jonah said, “Trump may be hesitant to attack Cruz. Cruz is the kind of guy to swim across a moat at night with a knife in his teeth and fight back”. LOL!
I like them both.
For different reasons. But both are A+ to me.
Goldberg wants to see them eviscerate each other. Then Bush waltzes back in.
First it was Bush against Trump, then Fiorina, then Carson, and now Cruz. They want the candidates to be so bloodied and damaged that Bush waltzes back in.
Cruz and Trump have got something going. Not sure what it is but they are up to something.
This was inevitable, I think. Cruz is peaking at just the right time.
Couldn’t agree more.Cream finally rising to the top.
No, he’s not.
Cruz and Trump are a tag-team.
Mr. Cruz will not belittle someone personally. However, at some point if they are the main rivals, I can see him go after their politics or policies. Neither Cruz nor Trump got into this just to get some publicity and a book deal.
He said he would disagree on policy but would not attack.
I’m sure you’re right about the media’s plans. Cruz will not fall for it. Any contrasts he draws will be on policy.
I wondered why Trump got into the race after he gave his announcement speech and every single thing he said he would do was what Cruz had already said. The only things Trump left out were religious liberty and abolishing the IRS. I have discussed the possibility with my husband that Trump and Cruz have been working in tandem from the beginning. Even Trump says they agree on the issues 100%.
Where is that Simpsons graphic of the boss ?
EXCELLANT !
Hillary QUEEN ISIS or ISIS QUEEN ( Benjhazi attacks ) and Barney Rubble.
