In the hours before House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) abruptly withdrew his candidacy to be the next speaker of the House, he was sent an email from a conservative activist threatening to expose an alleged affair with a colleague. The subject line: “Kevin, why not resign like Bob Livingston?”
The email, sent just after 8 a.m. on Thursday, came from Steve Baer, a Chicago-based GOP donor known for mass-emailing conservative figures and Republican lawmakers. It was addressed to McCarthy and numerous others, including the personal account of Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.), who conservative media sites have suggested is tied romantically to McCarthy.
McCarthy has brushed off the affair allegation....

I am glad he is gone, the GOPe or the Dims would have held this over him to run him like a damned puppet if it had not come out to the public.
His response to this suggests some credibility to the allegation. I suspect far too many of our GOP have crap hanging over their heads like this.

Two down, how many more to go? Get rid of the corrupt GOPe, even if replaced with a Dem (who can then be replaced later). The party is bound to change if enough of these people get booted from Congress.

The dirty trick squad is out playing games, sort of Vince Flynn-ish, except without the bullets. I hope they’ve instilled some fear in the bad actors including McConnell.
The Speaker of the House is too close to the US presidency to be held by someone who is black mailable and too morally weak to respect his own wife and family. Honor your vows or get a divorce .

Why am I not surprised that a RINO resigns without a fight? Ted Cruz has repeatedly called RINOs out for their lack of courage. They all show cowardice when events get difficult.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad McCarthy is gone, but I’m sad that there is such a show of caving before a vote. McCarthy learned his skedaddling lessons well from Boehner.

Do we? - Marriage is not honored in this “society”; less so every day. Now that women are so engaged in the workplace; there’s just too much candy on the shelf. Many of these so-called “career women” are just cruising & biding their time until they can lasso a rich man.
Twinkie’s married 51 years last month. When this marriage ends; that’s it. Fidelity is out of fashion; and the children suffer. More’s the pity.
What a good question. Here is my answer.
They all live in a bubble. They thought they could get away with this. They are detached from reality and they think this little affair was something the everybody does (Boehner included) so, what the heck.

If I were in congress, I would aim for Petra Verkaik. "Okay, I'm resigning, my reputation is in tatters, and my wife is splitting. But you know what? It was WORTH it!!!"
The same people that got to John Roberts.
Or, Boehner knew it and used it to his advantage. Now he can stay and say “well, I tried.”
