Rand Paul: Ted Cruz ‘Pretty Much Done For’ in Senate (More turtle soup)
Roll Call's #WGDB Blog ^ | September 29, 2015 | Niels Lesniewski

Paul and McConnell have support each other.

Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday said fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted. Cruz is “done for” in the Senate.

“Ted has chosen to make this really personal and chosen to call people dishonest in leadership and call them names, which really goes against the decorum and also against the rules of the Senate, and as a consequence, he can’t get anything done legislatively,” Paul told Fox News Radio. “He is pretty much done for and stifled and it’s really because of personal relationships, or lack of personal relationships, and it is a problem.”

Paul, a Kentucky Republican who has had the backing of his home-state senior senator, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, despite some tough policy differences, had been asked about Cruz’s inability to even muster the support of 11 senators to secure a roll call vote on a procedural motion designed to amend the continuing resolution to keep the government running.

The Senate’s set to vote on passage of that measure at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the last day of the federal government’s 2015 fiscal year.

“I approach things a little different, I am still just as hardcore in saying what we are doing, I just chose not to call people liars on the Senate floor and it’s just a matter of different perspectives on how best to get to the end result,” Paul said in the interview.

Paul backed McConnell’s 2014 re-election bid. Cruz had accused McConnell of lying to him about the way forward for the revival of the Export-Import Bank in the Senate.

Like Cruz, Paul opposes the CR advanced by McConnell to avoid a shutdown later in the week. But Paul has focused his criticism on the use of the stopgap spending vehicles. Paul would have rather seen more pressure put on Democrats to advance the dozen individual appropriation bills.

“I would defund not only Planned Parenthood but hundreds and hundreds of regulations, hundreds and hundreds of wasteful programs. I would take them all out, put them on the table and say ‘You know what Democrats, it doesn’t take 60 votes to defund something, it’s actually going to take 60 votes to fund any of these programs,’ vote on them one at a time and we will see how many of these crazy programs get 60 votes. My guess would be very few, but that would take the courage to let the spending expire and start anew and let new programs all require 60 votes to pass,” Paul said.

McConnell signaled Tuesday he intends to call additional votes on the regular fiscal 2016 spending bills, though there was no evidence Democrats accede to that proposal without a big budget agreement between the two parties.

Cruz’s speech has forced the hands of the DC GOP. They have to reveal themselves now. I mean read this and think about how radically different what Cruz did was.

“But I would also encourage people to watch very carefully what happens after that. After that you have a voice vote. A voice vote is still a vote. Let’s be clear, standing here on the floor, there were two senators — Senator Lee and I — who voted aye, who voted to table the tree and take up the amendment barring funding for Planned Parenthood and barring funds for this catastrophic Iranian nuclear deal. The remaining senators on the Republican side — you had Leader McConnell; you had Whip Cornyn; you had Senator Alexander; you had Senator Cochran — those four senators voted loudly no. It’s still a vote, even thought it’s not a recorded vote. It’s a vote on the Senate floor.”

I can’t wait to vote for Cruz in the Primaries. It will be the proudest vote in my life. He stands and speaks the truth while all Washington is against him.

I couldn't have said that better.

Sen. Cruz: The Real Story of What Is Happening in Washington (Sep 28, 2015 – 59:47)
……… OR... “Mr Cruz Goes To Washington”

Ted Cruz couldn’t get anyone in the Senate to back him tonight as he tried to get a ban on Planned Parenthood funding and a linkage of the Iran Nuclear deal in a government funding bill. He stood alone on the Senate floor:
Cruz’s amendment would place a one-year ban on federal funding for Planned Parenthood. It would also ban the Obama administration from using funds from the short-term bill to implement the Iran nuclear deal or any “assessed contributions” to the United Nations until lawmakers receive the “side deals” between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The “side deals” have been a key point of contention among opponents of the deal. Cruz and House Republicans have suggested that the 60-day congressional review period for the Iran nuclear deal hasn’t started because the administration hasn’t given lawmakers the agreements.

After the procedural back-and-forth, Cruz slammed Republican leadership, suggesting they repeatedly “surrender” to President Obama.

“You know, President Obama has negotiated a catastrophic nuclear deal with Iran. Republican leadership goes on television all the time and rightly says this is a catastrophic deal,” he added. “I would suggest that if we actually believed the words that are coming out of their mouths, then we should be willing to use any and all constitutional authorities.”

After this Cruz launched into an hour speech, one that Mark Levin just tweeted out saying it’s a MUST LISTEN.

Sour grapes. He’s pulling out soon, but just may let his campaign go dormant so that he can try and rub Trumps nose a little longer (like Graham).

I think this and Cruz’s sudden failure to get second motions is due to his implicit support for Trump. Even if this election is a failure for Trump/Cruz, Trump will still be a billionaire and Cruz will still win his Senate seat.

McConnell? He’ll either be ousted or retired soon.

So Rand you think the whole point of being a Senator is the same as McConnell and his ilk, to just go with the flow and keep getting reelected, without ever actually doing what your constituents voted you in for? Well I prefer someone like Cruz who has the guts and moral fortitude to fight for what is right even if it costs him his seat.

That's why Cruz is an Honorable Man and you Rand? Well you are your father's son.

IMO, Ted is a “voice crying in the wilderness”, with respect to our desperate need to have the GOP stand and use ALL tools to stop the evil policies of this administration and the democrats. If Ted is the only man standing and fighting to preserve our republic and freedom, then God bless him.

Rand may be correct but its not news, the and Rand himself is a party of one on many occasions, too...

the primary problem is neither Cruz nor Rand, its the senate GOP leadership

we need to fix that first before we start squabbling about this senator or that

Perfect that you said that. I just highlighted this from the Drudge Story (maybe same one)

Paul: talking about letting hundreds and hundreds of costly programs expire and then requiring they pass 60 votes to be refunded ...."... but that would take the courage to let the spending expire and start anew and let new programs all require 60 votes to pass,” "

What courage, exactly, is Rand showing, pointing out that no one in his party has the courage, while pointing out that one of the few men who is showing courage is 'done in the Senate?'

Cruz is the only one acting. All the others say "Cruz's actions are too extreme, we must have the courage to act!'

It's almost the bizarro doublespeak of O and the libs and dems.
