If Republicans nominate a strong conservative, it could hurt them on Election Day. A lot.

How convenient.

I just posted exactly the opposite of this on the “replacement” thread.
If we don’t get a pitbull conservative as Speaker to encourage the true base to get out there and vote, there’s a good chance we’ll see Speaker Pelosi again come 2017.

How would Speaker Pelosi differ from Speaker Boehner?

That’s kinda my point. If the caucus elects another of Boehners lackies, the base stays home and Democrats win.
This is a chance to completely change the landscape of tnext years election.
Wish I had faith that they won’t blow it.

Then, given the politics of WaPo, wouldn't this be exactly what they want? Why do they always champion milquetoast RINOs for the GOP nomination? Individuals that they NEVER support during the general election. Why don't they support conservatives to win the Republican nomination, if they think it will hurt the party so much?

Surrender your principles. Win an election. Big deal! You have lost what’s most important.

I think the true base voted last time, but were suckered. If we have nothing but spineless, play along to get along seniles, what can we do? Start another party? What outcome would be any different? I for one will vote as usual but I know my vote won’t count if it even gets through the voting machine. I’m so depressed.

In a normal year, Goldwater might’ve won. Months after a popular president was assassinated? Not a chance. Lincoln couldn’t have beat LBJ that year.

If the writers are Demos - ignore - it’s divide and conquer.
If the writers are Repubs - are they going to take their balls and go home?

Yeah, far better the Republicans should nominate a lukewarm name-only conservative. Or better yet, a Democrat!
That would REALLY help their chances on election day.

Gosh, how nice of the commie Washington Post to be so concerned about the Republicans.
To: mad_as_he$$
For all intents and purposes, Pelosi still was the Speaker of House, might as well have been.
