Why does Trump remain atop the polls? You can still blame the media.
The Washington Post's The Monkey Cage ^ | August 28, 2015 | John Sides

Posted on 08/29/2015 6:18:16 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Cranky Reader: Sides, you are an idiot.

Me: Cranky Reader! Welcome back. It’s been a long time since you’ve been in touch.

CR: Unfortunately, it hasn’t been a long time since you’ve been dead wrong about a presidential election.

Me: What did I do now?

CR: Remember how a few weeks ago you said to “blame the media” for Trump’s surge? And how there is this cycle of “discovery, scrutiny, and decline” for primary candidates? You know, in your stupid book? Well, Trump’s been scrutinized a million times since then. And his poll numbers are just as strong! Where’s the decline?

Me: I’ve got some thoughts on this. Let’s start with this idea: People don’t change their minds without new information.

CR: Well, yes. In fact, that is painfully obvious.

Me: What I mean by discovery, scrutiny and decline is that, during the presidential primary, people’s opinions respond to changes in the information they’re getting. The initial surge of news coverage drives up poll numbers. Some combination of scrutiny and the discovery of the “next” candidate brings about the decline....

Obviously Trump is selling what the people want, Jeb and Hillary aren’t.

It is as simple as this:

The Democrats represent the illegal aliens.

The GOP represents their employers.

No one represents the citizens, 65% of whom want the borders and laws enforced.

Trump says he will.

He wins.

Yes, and the Iowa Caucus poll released this afternoon almost matches the CNN poll from the beginning of the week. Trump +1 Doc Carson +4 from the other one. I guess we all don’t realize that Snidely Trumplash is a bad bad guy..

we know Trump stories get readers, and of course news organizations want to provide content that people want to read.

Bingo!

The MSM would love to ignore Trump, or create a negative public image of him, but they can't -- people are too interested in him, and he already has a public image.

So Trump gets massive MSM coverage, which increases his support, because he's saying what most people believe but are not getting from establishment politicians.

People are fed up with the establishment elites.Trump is the protest. The next level of protest would be very unpleasant and involve a lot of rope.

I disagree with your overly optimistic outlook. Trump does not have this wrapped up yet, but I think he knows that. Trump will not take anything for granted and as bad as Jebbie looks right now, we still haven't driven the stake through the heart yet.

What Trump has going for him though is the fire in the belly and the competitive spirit. I think he will prevail, especially as he appears to be taking command of the situation.

Trump is for AMERICA.

That is why he is doing so well. He is not for outsourcing, he is for building our country back up.

Trump is the media’s creation to stop a conservative victory.

This room temp IQ is at least pleased he is showing a clear example of how to handle elitist wannabees while he does it. Republicans would do nothing anyway, so this is better than that.

Trump is a winner and hates to lose (much more so than the average Joe). The media MO has been completely upended---if they try and overly dump on Trump, the public reaction will be 'there they go again'.

Case in point, the media complaining about his use of the term 'anchor babies'..it's just not heard any more. Trump completely shut that down, and STILL uses it.

The media is totally befuddled. They'd love to screw Trump but they just don't know how.

“The media is totally befuddled. They’d love to screw Trump but they just don’t know how.”

Yes. They finally used up all of their credibililty. They have been coasting on stored up credibility for two decades.

During the Obama administration, they used up all they had left.
