Kasich to pick up major endorsement from Alabama governor
The Washington Post's Post Politics ^ | August 17, 2015 | Philip Rucker

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination with a unique message of compassionate conservatism and cultural inclusion, will pick up a head-turning endorsement Monday in the Bible Belt.

Alabama Gov. Robert J. Bentley (R) plans to endorse Kasich at a campaign event in Birmingham, according to a Kasich campaign official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose the plans.

With Bentley's backing, Kasich hopes to show that his message can appeal across the Republican spectrum — from the Midwest, where he has been a popular governor, to New England, where he is rising in the New Hampshire polls and now to the South.

Bentley will be the third sitting Republican governor to endorse a candidate in the 2016 presidential race. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Maine Gov. Paul LePage are backing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who served as chairman of the Republican Governors Association....

Bentley has not been acting very conservative lately. Especially regarding taxes. Some pundits are saying that Bentley is using this endorsement as a way to expand Medicaid in Alabama.

He needs to be taken to the woodshed by the Alabama GOP.

“His immigration plan is similar to Trump’s “

That is a strange take — Kasich has stated he is for amnesty.

Ha ha....good one. Does Kasich even register in the national polls? Better than Trump, with hispanics and African Americans? Similar immigration plan to Trumps????

I want what you’re drinking, this morning :)

Bentley lost all respect when he pulled down the Confederate flags at a memorial on the Capitol’s grounds. He had it done before anyone even asked. It was done in a sneaky, low down way. I detest the man and I voted for him twice.
The only one in Alabama whose endorsement matters is Jeff Sessions. He seems to be a Trump supporter, although he and Cruz are close. Sessions is one of the few that supported Cruz during his filibuster.

Well this is impressive.

Plan B perhaps should have been to go shopping at Kohl’s and buy a cheap girdle. They, too, offer support. While there he might be friendly and by two - one for Bill’s Hill looks like she may need supporting as well.

I guess he figures he’s 7 months into his second term, he can’t run in 2018, so he’ll start moving to the left. He’s not nearly as bad as our Guv here in TN, a left-wing country clubber RINO who’d prefer to have a Democrat legislature to our supermajority GOP one.

As I recall it was known from the start that Bentley wasn’t great but I think the guy he beat in the runoff was worse (Byrne, now in Congress)

I think Jesse Watters should take his traveling microphone to any main street in America and see how many people out of a hundred chosen at random know who Robert Benchley...oops, Robert Bentley is.

obviously some personal connection there ... Bentley M.D. might have different views on Medicaid that aren’t conservative.

I understood it to be the other way around, that Bentley was worse than Byrne.

Bentley’s tone in the article comes across as vaguely homo-erotic. “American needs a champion”, gag.

Little agreement on this old thread

Seems the teacher’s union hated Byrne though.

That was my concern that Bentley was a Paul Hubbert flunky (Hubbert has since died, but he was effectively the de facto AL Democrat leader for 2 decades and also ran against Gov. Guy Hunt in 1990). It was why I endorsed Bradley Byrne in 2010.

If Bentley the RINO thinks his endorsement of Kasich the RINO “I went to a homosexual wedding”, will help him win the Alabama primary he’s as crazy as the day is long.
