Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz could face off in debate – under Senate rules

* RNC chief strategist confirms contest would be allowable on Capitol Hill
* Sanders has expressed wish to square off against ‘reactionary agenda’

Bernie Sanders could participate in a one-on-one, leftwing versus right debate with Ted Cruz during the presidential primary, without violating restrictive rules set by the Democratic and Republican national committees. The two senators would just have to face off at their workplace, the US Capitol.

The first debate of the extended primary election will see the top 10 Republican candidates in a field of 16 face off in Cleveland on 6 August, in an event hosted by Fox News. Both parties have made clear that if candidates appear in unsanctioned debates, they will be barred from any official debates.

But staffers for both the DNC and RNC confirmed that the restrictions on presidential debates do not apply to debates held on the floor of Congress.

Sean Spicer, the chief strategist for the RNC, told the Guardian: “Senate business would not be a violation.”

Sanders, a self-professed democratic socialist who represents Vermont as an independent but is running for the Democratic nomination, attracting large crowds and performing well in the polls, has long expressed a willingness to debate Republican rivals one on one....

Sanders may very well be the Democratic nominee. He’s in second place and Hillary may be indicted or otherwise put out to pasture.

Hillary probably isn't going to be the nominee. But Bernie almost certainly won't be. The Democrat National Committee simply won't abide a member of another party (in this case, Socialist) running on their ticket.

It would be akin to a Libertarian or a Conservative running on the Republican ticket.

Ain't gonna happen.

Bernie’s about to have his last hurrah. He won’t go gently into that good night, he will rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

Let’s do some math: Sanders was 26 in the Year One of the radical era which was 1968. I was 19. So he has been steeped, soaked, & marinated in radicalism ever since. Just because he is now this whitehaired kindly looking grandfatherly type doesn’t abrogate where he came from.

Note: If Chicago Seven star Abbie Hoffman were alive now, he’d be 77 to Bernie’s 73 (Hoffman croaked in 1990).

Sanders has spent his adult life in a liberal cocoon never being challenged for his views, much like Obama but over a longer lifespan.

If he debates Ted Cruz, the fireworks will be fun to watch. How long into the fray until Sanders shrieks, “You fascist f***ing pig!!! They should kill you right f***ing now!!!!”

I’ve watched these worthless lefty bastards for nearly fifty years. Never dreamed they’d still be causing trouble. Not their descendant spawn, but the original radicals themselves. And now, d@mnit, one of them could become our president!

Gun control was a big issue in 1968 and it is now.....

Gee, I wonder why?

Pay per view it and retire the national debt. As well as blowing up Orville Redenbacher stock.

Don’t feel so bad. I’m visiting my 94 years young Mom, who whenever I put on FoxNews asks me, “Son, just how did we manage to elect that goofball not once, but twice?”

“Mom, both times it involved a weak Republican combined with the low information welfare vote.”

“Son, how much longer do we have to put up with him?”

“Mom, sixteen plus months.”

“Son, I intend to hang around long enough to hear the words `President Ted Cruz’”.

;^)

The problem with such a debate is that their bases for their worldviews are diametrically opposite.

They’ll be arguing past each other - “it’s green” vs “no, it’s 4!”.

And the observers, depending on their worldview and basis of reality, will decide “green” is right or “4” is right.
