So, let’s just dismiss Cruz and Paul out of hand because they are unlike any Republican nominees in the “modern era”, which I guess started in 1988.

I’m just getting this information on this page: these seven are John Kasich, Mike Huckabee, Mike Pence, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and Chris Christie.

Well, they didn’t dismiss Ted Cruz.

Because he isn’t a “longshot.” /wink

Bloomberg needs to confine itself to reporting the news and the numbers.

It doesn't need a view! Sheesh! Just because Mikey was mayor?

Let’s just dilute the Conservative vote so as to nominate another RINO.

And then lose.

AGAIN.

Five of them are full-term governors, as were Pataki and Gilmore.

I agree with him about Kasich. I disagree with him about the rest.

Jeb Bush is not being handed the nomination on a platter, and I’m not sure he is willing to get down and dirty to actually compete for the nomination.

With regard to Ted Cruz and Rand Paul not being in the same league as Marco Rubio, all three are first term Senators. Rubio had solid experience prior to the Senate in the Florida state legislature (which is a good thing). But, Cruz has solid experience as the Solicitor General for Texas, and in the executive branch of the federal government prior to that. Rand has solid experience outside of politics, as a medical doctor. All three are a bit on the light side with regard to the national spotlight. Republicans do prefer more experienced candidates.

If I were to go strictly by resumes, I’d say Kasich for President and Rubio for Vice President. Kasich has two terms as Governor of a big midwestern state, and lots of experience in the U.S. Congress prior to that. Rubio has kind of the reverse resume, currently in the U.S. Senate and previously Speaker of the lower house of the Florida state legislature. A white and an Hispanic. Ohio and Florida. This all looks like a winning formula.

Scott Walker brings an ability to connect to the middle class. Cruz is simply brilliant. Rand Paul can appeal to people outside the base of the Republican Party. These are all strong positives.

So, here’s the field (at this point): Jeb Bush (establishment candidate), John Kasich (alternative establishment candidate), Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Scott Walker.

Only one on the list with a shot is John Kasich—the rest are all Not-ready-for-prime-time. Maybe as VP material only.
