Appearing on Morning Joe Wednesday morning, Bloomberg Politics Mark Halperin talked up the chances of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz winning the upcoming 2016 GOP primary.
Halperin told host Mika Brzezinski and panelist Mike Barnicle that Cruz can be the Republican nominee, breaking with many who have dismissed the first announced GOP candidates chances to represent the party in the general election.
[T]his time its going to be different. The rules are going to have the window, Halperin said. So if Ted Cruz does well in Iowa and South Carolina, he can be the Republican nominee. Hes not a frontrunner, but hes a strong second-tier candidate if he performs well, he works hard and hes brilliant. He can do well.
Hes going to have to learn to be a broader figure than he is to wear well, because right now he wears it well with his core supporters and his announcement speech was aimed at his core supporters, Halperin said. But people grow in the process for running for president and people who underestimate Ted Cruzs capacity to grow and change would be making a mistake.
quote “people grow in the process for running for president”
um.. I don’t believe that one bit. I believe they LIE at the start to get traction with the base and once they have pretty much secured the nomination THEN they start telling the truth about how what they REALLY believed all along.
That isn’t “growing” that’s LYING.
But you see.... I don’t have to BELIEVE what Ted Cruz says... because I have been watching what he DOES for years now! I KNOW what he believes.
Halperin is a big lib. First one to acknowledge Cruz is brilliant. The media may overplay their cards here; Cruz is not Sarah Palin and will not bow to them. We watched him in TX as the GOPe here played every dirty trick and every lie they could. He did not fray.
A ticket with Cruz/Walker or Walker/Cruz would blow up the MSM because neither cares what is said or written about them.
Halperin, people who underestimate Cruz’s capacity to not fall for patronizing statements from half-baked liberal pundits would be making a mistake.
I think he’s the guy that said that the MSM is worth 15 percent on election day, so he has occasional bouts of truthfulness.
I think it will come down to the Debates. I can’t wait to see him debate the exciting, charismatic Jeb Bush.
Too bad there aren’t any actual debates. What we have are panel discussions with the immoderators being active, hostile participants who don’t have to follow rules set for other participants. Be sure to thank the RNC.
Panel Discussions? Is that a definite?
