Why Ted Cruz Is Such a Long Shot
The New York Times' The Upshot ^ | March 23, 2015 | Nate Cohn

Posted on 03/23/2015 10:06:17 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In nearly every presidential primary, a few candidates attract a lot of news media attention even though they have almost no chance to win the nomination. Sometimes they even lead national polls or win states, but invariably their appeal is too narrow to allow them to build the broad coalition necessary to unite a diverse party.

Ted Cruz, the Texas senator and Tea Party favorite, who on Monday became the first major candidate to formally enter the race, has seemingly been on track for this role since he first ran for the Senate in 2012. He is the darling of conservatives in a conservative party. But he remains a long shot, at best.

The most interesting question about Mr. Cruz’s candidacy is whether he has a very small chance to win or no chance at all.

Political scientists argue that the single most important determinant of the outcome of the nomination is support from party elites: those operatives who can staff a winning campaign; the donors who fund it; the elected officials and interest group leaders who bestow the credibility necessary to persuade voters and affect media coverage....

*snort*

The most significant thing stated in this by Nate Cohn (and allowed into print by the NY Times editors” is that the GOP is a “diverse party”

Betcha we don’t hear them say that again this cycle ...

With Cruz in the mix, he will become target #1 for the corporate media and RINO backstabbers. This should take the heat off of Walker for a while.

Explain Reagan and Goldwater then.

Ok..I was only two when Goldwater ran in 64..I haven't really studied the GOP nomination race then..but Goldwater or any GOPer did not have much of a chance that year because of the tragic hangover of JFK assassination the year before..as for Reagan, he is remembered fondly because of his landslide victories and truly being a great President. But in the late 70's..Reagan had few friends in the GOPe..they were furious with him for running against sitting President Ford in the primaries and perhaps weakening him..sadly a lot of the GOPe bought into the myth that Reagan was too old and just a B-movie actor who would start WWIII by nuking the Commies..fortunately, Reagan overcame them, the liberal media (remember, no talk radio, Fox news or internet) to win so handily. Also, it's not just the GOP where that doesn't always work. Just 8 years ago Hillary had all the endorsements, even the black endorsements, all the workers etc. And look what happened there!

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Ted plays his cards right, he'll slaughter them no matter who the Dem candidate is.

Of course there will be hundreds of these “dog bites man” stories. So predictable.

I’d be further willing to bet that all the operatives of The Ministry of Propaganda known as journ-o-lists have similar articles written or in the works and they’ll be scheduled to attempt to create a drumbeat.

Ted will get the same outpouring of support as did Sarah. It was amazing then and will be again.

NY Slimes circa 1979. Marxists never change the propaganda.

The knives are out for Cruz. NPR and NYT are already running hit pieces disguised as news. Google “Ted Cruz official website” and you have to jump through an Observer article to find his donation page. They really are scared this guy could get going.

Nate Cohn writes for The New York Times and he doesn't know better than to split infinitives?

1) Ideology is more important that competence to the Old Gray Slut.

2) People stupid enough to hold the desired ideology are generally inadequate to be taught proper grammar. "Trainable" at best.
