Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker admitted Sunday to changing his views on the vexing issue of immigration. Appearing on Fox News Sunday, the presidential was presented with a 2013 clip in which he told a Wisconsin newspaper that he could envision undocumented workers who pay penalties being offered a pathway to citizenship. Walker said Sunday that he has since changed his mind on what many conservatives deem to be "amnesty."

I concur with your agenda. The practical question is what is politically possible. Having a great agenda means nothing if elections are lost. Some really great conservatives lost elections, and when you lose elections in our system you have Zero power to change anything. Ask McCain-Palin, Cuchinelli, Mourdock, etc how many bills they have sponsored or signed.

I am not one of your everything or nothing person. I want the most possible, not the impossible dream.

All pols say they are against “amnesty”.

Walker has neither recanted his advocacy of immediate legalization, eventual citizenship and subsequent virtual open borders, nor would I trust the Koch and GOPe-backed pol if he made an election year switch—like he’s pretending to do.

What you say is so because we let it be so. But it is up to us to move the Overton Window so that more of my plan is politically possible. If everyone would save that image and redistribute it to ten friends plus their Congressional delegation and ask their friends to do likewise it might soon be not only politically possible to speak of such a program but politically necessary.

I saw the Chris Wallace interview and was extremely impressed. Scott Walker is an 80% Republican. We can never get a 100 percent guy because someone always has an axe to grind. However, I was impressed by the way he did not allow himself to get caught in Wallaces snarky questions but turned the question around to his talking points. He strikes me as smart as a whip and if he becomes President, it will be up to us - conservatives - to keep him on the track regarding illegal immigration.

Stop the freebies and they’ll run back home. No need to deport.

Stop the freebies and announce 1 year of jail time then deportation will happen. They will scurry home.

I am glad you’re here because you respect the laws. Even though they are not perfect.

I am sure because of this you also would not have liked others getting into your home country illegally and ignoring your prior country’s immigration laws.

I certainly know Mexico doesn’t like others violating their immigration laws, which are much harder on illegals, than America’s.

Some will stay for the one year free room and board. Maybe if they were all fed that “prison loaf” crap and made to wear pink underwear and clothes for a year, that might get more to go.

Personally, I might allow for some flexibility with regard
to amnesty but only AFTER the borders are secure.

So, is he serious, or is going to support a “not-an-amnesty” Amnesty after the Primaries?

When I arrived in US at tender age of 20 as a graduate student, I had every intention to work on my masters in engineering, try to find a job in my field of study for 18 months (max allowed in those days to foreign students) and then return back to India where my skills would be welcome.

I earned the degree, was lucky to find a job in my field in Chicago, and really enjoyed working with my colleagues. Before my 18 months were up, the company sponsored me for a green card, which was approved by immigration and was put on a waiting list. And I am still here after 54 years!

Three steps:

1. Build a secure fence on border.

2. Build a system to deal with legal arrivals who do not leave after visa expires. 40%+ illegals fall in this category.

3. Build a e-verify system for employers to check on-line legal status of applicants & any employee, on-line.

The “amnesty” statement was made by Walker in 2013. I am willing to give him the benefit of making that statement without much thought. Because illegals was not a huge issue in Iowa, but government unions were the big issue. With 3 elections in 4 years, Walker must have been a busy person.

Now that he is on a national scene, Walker has learned much more about immigration issues, so I am happy to see he is modifying his stand.

That is also my impression after seeing Walker interviews a few times. He comes across as being smart without being snarky or overbearing.

I have yet to see the label “extreme right wing” placed on Walker by MSM. That is a good thing for consumption by casual low information voters.
