Rand Paul dives back into Ferguson debate
WICU-TV / CNN ^ | November 25, 2014 | Ashley Killough, CNN

Sen. Rand Paul is blaming politicians for the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, arguing that the criminal justice system fuels racial tension by disproportionately targeting African-Americans.

The so-called war on drugs has created a culture of violence and put police in a nearly impossible situation," Paul said in an op-ed published for TIME.

He acknowledged that the shooting death of Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer wasn't related to drugs, but argued that outsized penalties for nonviolent drug crimes creates a "tension in some communities that too often results in tragedy."

The comments are another attempt by Paul, a Kentucky Republican and likely 2016 presidential contender, to seize on the violence in Ferguson as an opportunity to make inroads with minorities. He's blending his libertarian-leaning views about the war on drugs with a message that emphasizes the importance of individual responsibility.

And he's doing this while other possible GOP presidential prospects -- like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie -- are largely silent on the turmoil unfolding in Ferguson.

Back in August, as violence first unfolded on the streets of Ferguson, Paul made a splash with an op-ed -- also in TIME -- blasting the government for over-militarizing local police forces. The piece made him one of the few political voices willing to weigh in on the issue at the time....

...the criminal justice system fuels racial tension by disproportionately targeting African-Americans.

So says Rand Paul...and that's demonstrably a lie. Law enforcement agencies across the nation bend over backwards to go easy on blacks and Mexicans.

What does that guy on the commercial say? “I’m from New Jersey. I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

Total BS.
Criminal cases always have been and should be a state matter. Neither Rand nor anyone else should have a say in the matter.

He talks a big game about small government but his issues all seem to have big government solutions.

Is there evidence that legalizing drugs ends the culture of violence?

Drugs, their abuse has devastated black communities.

Black Skin Privilege

I live in a racially diverse city where blacks have a specially aggressive sense of entitlement.

Every time I go out, regardless of where I go, I will experience at least a couple of instances of challenging behavior daring me to challenge "their special rights."

Examples?
At signalized intersections, crossing against the light at a deliberate casual rate.
No matter how wide a sidewalk is they (usually two or more of all ages) they walk down the middle and challenge non-blacks to dare get close to their intended path. Non blacks, when meeting opposing pedestrians move to their right.
Aggressively cutting in lines, where all non blacks go to the end of the line.

Need more?

The Unarmed One was pumped up on THC when he met his fate.
Libertarians have a soft spot for getting that stuff legal.

outsized penalties for nonviolent drug crimes creates a "tension…"

Agreed.

outsized penalties for nonviolent drug crimes creates a "tension in some communities that too often results in tragedy."

That may be so, but it is unclear what the connection is between the penalties and the tension and the tragedy.

the criminal justice system fuels racial tension by disproportionately targeting African-Americans.

An other idiot politician. Might it not be, could it possibly be that African -Americans just happen to offend more then others?
I mean you can not argue with the known honest statistical fact that a black person is more likely to be murdered by another black person, then by all other races combined..... How does the system disproportionately cause that?

Black behavior was always somewhat problematic in comparison

But it took a cliff dive between the various CRAs and advent of rap
