Malloy leads by 8 in Connecticut Governor's Race
Public Policy Polling ^ | October 06, 2014

Posted on 10/06/2014 6:56:17 PM PDT by campaignPete R-CT

Public Policy Polling's first Connecticut poll of 2014 finds Dan Malloy with an 8 point lead for reelection over Republican foe Tom Foley, 43/35. Independent Joe Visconti is polling at 9%. Visconti is largely drawing voters away from Foley- his supporters say their second choice would be Foley by a 46/27 spread. In a head to head, Malloy's advantage over Foley is 6 points at 45/39.

Malloy's had low approval numbers throughout most of his term and that hasn't changed- only 40% of voters approve of the job he's doing to 50% who disapprove. But Foley's numbers are even worse with just 34% of voters holding a favorable opinion of him to 49% with an unfavorable one. The dislike of both candidates helps to explain why Visconti is getting such a high level of support. Malloy is actually winning more Republicans (17%) than Foley is Democrats (12%) which makes it very hard for a Republican to be successful in a state where Democrats have a substantial registration advantage.

Democrats are headed for a sweep up and down the ballot in Connecticut this fall. George Jepsen leads 45/30 for Attorney General, Denise Merrill is up 42/33 for Secretary of State, Denise Nappier is up 45/37 for Treasurer, and Kevin Lembo leads 38/33 for Comptroller.

CT is not a bellwether. But the GOP in this state is heading for a shellacking in 4 weeks.

One-party rule cannot be overcome by CT's brand of silly-Republicanism. You cannot fix stupid.

State Senate is currently 22-D to 14-R. Could see a gain or two there, but not much else. The CT state House districts are too gerrymandered ... which limits pick up possibilities.

So long as Malloy has access to a photocopier, he’ll never lose.

Oh gosh what a mess. Dan is getting his points across and handing out checks all over CT. Foley is boring and needs to step up his game.

Why does the third party candidate always seem to wreck the Republican candidate?

In some of these states an R or D doesn’t matter a hill of beans. Look at Massataxes, the GOPe cheated like Mississippi to get the most left-wing candidate they could find.

I’d like to see the next poll that is published ... got any?
Visconti is sucking up a lot of the energy at the grassroots.

There is such disdain for Malloy in CT and this poll has him getting 17% of the Republican vote? Really? I’d like to see the internals of this poll. I know this is CT but something is fishy here.

Foley ain’t the most left-wing.
But he may prove to be the most left-off. Left off the ballots, that is.

I declare him to be a LEMON. So if he wins, he proves me wrong.

My limited sample of evening TV commercials suggests Malloy is outspending and out-messaging Foley. The Malloy commercials are extremely negative and misleading, yet likely effective in a state looking for any excuse to vote Dumbocrat. Foley lost by a few thousand votes in the last election, so hard to believe he cannot pick up that many in this climate. Amazingly, he might not.

last time, Malloy got about 12% of the Republicans. If my figures are correct.
if we adjust downward to that 12% ... that is a 1.25% swing fro Malloy (and to Foley), which cuts the 8% to 5.5%.

Which is 2.5% plus 3% for the Visconti factor.

Just about anyone in the phone book could beat Malloy. Except Foley, who should have long ago gotten the hook by state Republicans. He’s a personality-deprived, charisma-less RINO.

I know other polls have had Foley ahead. If anything , I would expect Foley to capture some more democratic votes.

“Why does the third party candidate always seem to wreck the Republican candidate?”

Unless that candidate is Ralph Nader.

I think the latest CBS/YouGov poll has Foley leading 40%-39%. It’s available on the website but hasn’t been released and thus not on realclearpolitics yet

Isn’t Public Policy Polling run by Stanley Greenberg aka Mr Rosa Delauro?

I could be wrong, if Greenberg’s involved, it ain’t straight up honest.
