Five women who could run for president in 2016
Constitution Daily ^ | November 16, 2012 | Staff

America has never had a female major party candidate nominated to be president, but the odds are growing that it will happen in 2016.

The current favorite for the 2016 Democratic nomination is a woman, and there are at least four other potential candidates in both parties.

It isn’t that female candidates haven’t tried. Hillary Clinton came the closest when she lost the Democratic nomination in 2008 to Barack Obama.

Here’s a look at the top prospects for 2016, starting with the Democratic frontrunner.

Hillary Clinton

The current Secretary of State is a huge favorite for the 2016 nomination for her party.

Clinton is expected to step down from her cabinet position next year. She would be 68 years old at the time of the 2016 convention.

The big question is if she will pursue the nomination.

Clinton has said in the past that she wasn’t interested in a second presidential run. But political watchers believe it will be Clinton’s decision in about two years to pursue the nomination.

One sign that experts point to was the tireless work of her husband, President Bill Clinton, in the final weeks of the Obama campaign.

The Clintons have collected an impressive amount of political IOUs, so it’s unclear if anyone in the Democratic Party would contest her nomination if she ran...

Can’t we just have the most qualified American citizen elected legally?

Why do we need a black one, a woman, a black woman, a lesbian, a transsexual, etc.?

Those are rhetorical questions, of course.

The Presidency really has become American Idol. Lame. Doesn’t deserve our respect.

How would she look four years from now?

I was just thinking about what someone posted earlier about some nipping and tucking and / or lifting. If she gets much lifted, she will be sporting a goatee.

If Hillary decides to run, she`ll be inaugurated in January 2017, assuming 0bama does indeed step aside. For whatever reason, 66% of the country favors her. If she wants it, it`s hers.

Yeah.. keep laughing.

We`re not talking about the same America anymore. This country has drifted so far to the left, no GOPer will be entering the White House again, except by invitation.

Warren would already have a huge advantage just by having a “D” next to her name, but I don`t believe it`ll be her. Watch for the dems to nominate a hispanic, like LA`s mayor Villagiarosa or San Antonio`s mayor Castro.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter (I’d say “citizen”...but we all know voting in the US isn’t limited to “citizens”).

I’d rank Haley over Condi. One runs a state and as the article says the other never held office.
I’d like to see Palin go 3rd party. She wouldn’t need to have too deep an organization behind her. Try and place a few congresspersons in a handful of states. I don’t want to simply hand all the branches to the loons. I don’t have any doubts we’re in dire need of a 3rd party not beholden to any number of special interests and not so embedded that they themselves are their own special interest group.

She was the only female in the field this year and had every chance but simply wasn’t ready for prime time. In truth not even close to ready.

If amnesty for illegal immigrants does happen, then that will, also, add MANY pro-leftist voters to the total voter rolls! How does the GOP and, even more importantly, conservatives overcome and “get around” all of the new pro-leftist voters that could be in place, prior to the elections of ‘14, ‘16, and beyond?

Sarah’s son Trigg will be a teen by then - so he won’t need mom around as much - that’s probably why she didn’t run this cycle.

Conservatives are fed up with the “next man up” philosophy of the Republican Machine - we force them to run Sarah and Deborah leads her people to victory - then the rebuilding can start.

“We should have many good choices to choose from.”

Then choose then because the GOP choose rinos. We had Michele Bachmann and they went with Mitt Romney.

Elizabeth Warren

Oh, c'mon. You expect us to believe Americans would vote for a 1st-term Senator with no executive experience and a track record of coasting through a career based on "affirmative-action"?

I mean, what are the odds of that?

Silly article. A Democratic woman who could barely win with piles of money, during a Democratic wave election in MASSACHUSETTS is not going to be a serious contender for President without even finishing a single term in any sort of elective office of any kind.

Condi Rice has made it clear on many occasions that she does not want to be Prez or VP. Her personality isn’t suited for it. She’d hate it and she knows it.

Sarah Palin knows she’s a lot more influential in her current role as Mama Spokesgrizzly. After getting sold out by the McCain campaign in 2008, she hasn’t shown any interest in putting up with the formal electoral bureaucratic BS. Running for Prez would decrease her freedom, decrease her influence, increase the stress on her and her family.

Hillary is a reasonable choice (but nobody needed an article to tell them that). I’m not convinced, though. A President Romney was the best thing that could happen to Hillary’s chances. I don’t think she and Bill really acted like folks setting her up for a 2016 run.

So, 3 of 5 are highly unlikely and a fourth is somewhat unlikely. Susanna Martinez I’d agree with: If she gets re-elected as Gov of NM, she’ll be pressured to run and will probably at least explore.

If Nikki Haley is re-elected, I think she’s far more likely to run than either Condi or Palin.
