Romney: 'If We Want to Get Rid of Obamacare, We're Going to Have to Replace President Obama'
The Weekly Standard ^ | June 28, 2012 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 06/28/2012 5:10:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney reacted to the Supreme Court's Obamacare decision by saying that, "if we want to get rid of Obamacare, we're going to have to replace President Obama."

"Let’s make clear that we understand what the Court did and did not do," Romney said today, speaking in Washington, D.C. "What the Court did today was say that Obamacare does not violate the Constitution. What they did not do was say that Obamacare is good law or that it's good policy."

Romney added: "Obamacare was bad policy yesterday. It's bad policy today. Obamacare was bad law yesterday. It’s bad law today."

This presidential election is "a choice," Romney said. "You can choose whether you want to have a larger and larger government, more and more intrusive in your life—separating you and your doctor—whether you're comfortable with more deficits, higher debt that we pass onto the coming generations. Whether you're willing to have the government put in place a plan that potentially causes you to lose the insurance that you like or whether instead you want to return to a time when the American people will have their own choice in healthcare. Where consumers will be able to make their choices as to what kind of health insurance they want."

"This is the time of choice for the American people," Romney said.

Romney concluded: "Help us. Help us defeat Obamacare. Help us defeat the liberal agenda that makes government too big, too intrusive, and is killing jobs across this great country."

Politicians say a lot of things...you have to look at their actions.

Mitt is right but...he’s going to have to explain what he’s going to replace Obamacare with. Just getting rid of it is only half the battle.

Yes.

This idea of a political race between Obama and Mitt Romney running as opposites is surreal.

It’s gonna take more than just another president. We have to take the Senate and have 60 SOLID votes to repeal it.

We have WAY too many RINOS (including Romney) right now to even come close.

The only way out is to renounce U.S. citizenship and move to a free country.

Unless Romney thinks the Executive branch legislates, he is simply posturing. We need to replace Congress and the Senate

Get used to Obamacare.

Any attempts to repeal will be killed by Democrats in the Senate.

So shut up, smile and pay your taxes. :)

I’m just curious: is this what you “moderates” wanted when you walked around lecturing conservatives in 2008?

It’s nakedly political, but have to give him props for being ready with a clear, on-point message.

And we will replace obamacare with the “new, improved” romneycare.

Ain’t THAT the truth. Especially on the healthcare issue.

One day one he can cease the allocation of funds to the implementation. If Obama can decide to not enforce the law on the borders, Romney can decide to not enforce the law of Obamacare.

He’s right and there are now 5 reliable liberal votes on the SCOTUS. And I do not mean Anthony Kennedy.

Won't be long before the jackwagons appear and seek to defeat the repeal by rejecting Romney.

>”We have to take the Senate and have 60 SOLID votes to repeal it”<

You only need 51 Senate Votes to repeal it in the Senate and a simple Majority in the House if Romney is President.

You need 67 Votes to overide an Obama Veto in the Senate and 2/3rds of the House.

The Filibuster Rule cannot be applied because of how Obamacare was originally passed using the Reconciliation Process.

Actions speak louder than words, the absolute first thing that mittens would have to do upon being elected, is to completely repeal obamanation care in its entirety. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening because of his past indiscretions with Massachusetts.
