Poll: Younger voters dissatisfied with Obama's handling of the economy
The Hill ^ | June 12, 2011 | Cristina Marcos

A new poll found that a majority of younger voters disapprove of President Obama's handling of the economy.

The results suggest Republicans have an opportunity to win back some of the younger voters who backed Obama in 2008. Obama vowed on the campaign trail to change Washington, but 69 percent of poll respondents contend that leaders in the nation's capital are failing to serve their generation.

Roughly 23.4 million 18-29 year-olds cast their votes in 2008, marking the highest turnout of young voters in modern presidential history. Young people made up about 18 percent of the electorate in 2008, and Obama won this age bracket by 34 percentage points. The president will be hard-pressed to do that again in 2012.

Forty-four percent of respondents disapprove of the president's handling of youth unemployment while only 31 percent approved, according to the poll conducted by the polling company, inc./womantrend on behalf of Generation Opportunity, a youth mobilization group.

Sixty-one percent of respondents said they would place higher priority on a candidate’s position on issues and record in office, rather than charisma and likability when they cast their vote for president next year.

"With high unemployment and high uncertainty, there's a lot of dissatisfaction among young people," said Paul T. Conway, the president of Generation Opportunity.....

Republicans have an opportunity to win back some of the younger voters who backed Obama in 2008.

Young cashiers and salespeople in my area are fed up with this administration and what it's done potentially to their futures. No convincing necessary, they are seeing for themselves the democrat tax and spend agenda. Obama's indifference to joblessness in this nation while bragging about jobs saved and jobs created is a huge Obama mistake. He truly believes we are that gullible.

3.8 million: The number of high school graduates that cannot find white-collar work

Good luck high school graduates! Obama plans to import 138,000 workers a month to take your jobs (2009 article)

College grads can't find work while feds continue to flood job market with foreign workers (2010 article)

The little lefty Obama voters are now getting a real education. Hope and Change and We Are The Ones We've Been Waiting For have morphed into a stinking pile of Marxist twaddle.

18-25 year olds typically vote in smaller numbers than any age group. Obama 'woke these people up' and got them to vote Democrat. They are easily convinced -- once.

After they voted, they started paying attention to what their vote hath wrought. They saw Obama as an unmitigated disaster, possibly the worst president ever.

If these people hadn't voted early, they probably wouldn't be paying so much attention to the Obama-pocalypse, and probably would be future Democrats in larger numbers. As it is, they will question what they have been told politically, sit out an election, and eventually switch to Republican, never to return.

If they are old enough to serve in the military they should have a right to vote and to have a beer.

I'll go along with that...BUT....if they aren't serving in the military and don't have a personal investment in this country....ie. own property/real estate.... they shouldn't get to vote at all...and that goes for everyone 18 and older....IMHO

Keep telling these young minds of mush how Obama has spent over 70 trips to the golf course and ask them what kind of change is that?

Hopefully this will cause them to wake up to all the liberal garbage they have been taught on more than just the economy. As a member of that age group who went to public school, the entire generation is infected with the disease of “progressivism.” At this point, the only hope I have for my generation is another Great Awakening by the Spirit of God. Nothing short of that will wake up their brains to the dangers we face as a country. That being said the few of us who are awake are alert and wide awake, so there is hope that something like that could happen.

lol... Well I guess you wouldn't have liked the requirements of our founders either. What we have now is what you get when people have nothing personally vested in the country. If you can buy a vote for a carton of cigs...something's wrong... eh?

You sound like a Dem.. you want to deny legitimate tax-paying citizens of their vote???

Listen up... there are MANY....MANY... HARD WORKING LEGAL CITIZENS of this country that do not have the privilege of owning their own real estate.... but they do have a RIGHT to be represented by their government. That RIGHT is GOD GIVEN not given by man, not given by you....

You just don't get it... you are NO different than OBAMA and his gang.

Disagree. If they serve in the military they should have a right to vote and to have a beer.

***If they are old enough to serve in the military they should have a right to vote and to have a beer.***

ONLY if they are actually serving in the military and have therefore gained some common sense perspective of what’s happening in the world and in politics!

Most 18 y/o folks are barely out of high school or just beginning college, otherwise, and have no concept of the ‘real’ world or what their votes might bring about; i.e. some imbecile like Obama.

I have nothing in common with Dems or the O... at all. I do have alot of respect for the Constitution and Bill of Rights... which have been perverted for way too long by the likes of them and the willful ignorance of others.

Our God given rights are to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness... but not on the backs of others. In your perspective..if anyone.....even illegals who pay taxes, they should be allowed to vote? I think you're the one that doesn't "get it".

Welcome to FR!

It’s refreshing to see that some folks of your generation are realizing that the brainwashing by liberal schooling is not really reality and is not good for your futures.
