This is a rather belated reply to the article you posted, about the "blood libel" against the Jews from the Saudi cleric. It is very extremist stuff. No doubt one should keep an eye on hate speech, but I think it needs to be said that this guy is obviously a fringe thinker. Such views are marginal in the Middle East. He is sort of what "Christian Identity" is to real churches. A more influential view of Muslim thinking on Jewish food laws can be found on this site. (Link posted below). I offer this site because these are hard-line, quite fundamentalist Islamic clerics (not liberals) who apply the food rules very legalistically. However they also make refence to Jewish rules, and respect Kosher certification. In some of the halal questions, they cite Rabbis opinions and respectfully defer to them. http://www.albalagh.net/halal/col4.shtml

Such views are marginal in the Middle East. This is not at all clear to a thinking reader. The Middle Eastern / Arab press is all controlled by their governments to some degree. There is not a 1st Amendment, nor a rough-and-tumble free exchange of ideas in a land where saying the wrong thing can get a fatwah pronounced against you. Anything that is said, the government can be said to at least tacitly approve. Finally, we see results of the recent survey showing large numbers of Islamics don't believe that Arabs committed the atrocities of 9/11.
So, I do not take statements like, "Such views are marginal in the Middle East", at face value. It seems all too likely that they might be believed by a significant percentage of the population.

"The human race refuses even to look at the Jewish pastries, let alone prepare them or consume them!"(2) Well, that's because Italian pastries are better, frankly, although I did once find one of Joey "Twopockets" Provenzano's thumbs in one of my panettone.
This muslim propoganda ranks right up there with Protestant claims that Catholics sacrifice babies on the alter and use the nuns for prostitutes.

Um, let's see... I'll take 6 AB neg, 6 O pos,
and 12 O neg...
Goes to prove the sheer insanity displayed by people in that region.
Time for a thermo-nuclear cleansing.

Ping! Fox News Channel just ran a short news segment based around this story, complete with:
o A synopsis of the "blood for Purim" story, with a statement from MEMRI's director
o An Arab-produced video clip "showing" Sharon ordering the assault-rifle execution of half-a-dozen-or-so bound and kneeling Pali prisoners, each with their own executioner
o The standard rebuttal by a U.S.-based Muslim spokescreature (CAIR? them, or a similar group), saying "no one in the Middle East pays attention to this stuff" (Then why does it seem so common, in a part of the world where the government controls the press, and the people largely hate us? Perhaps because of government-approved propaganda like this.).

You're very right about that. The kosher laws PROHIBIT the consumption of blood. That's one of the big rules of kosher slaughtering of animals. (For you meat eaters out there, that's why kosher meat is probably so blaaaaah.) The scary thing about this ignorant propaganda is that so many people in the world believe it.

"For this holiday, the victim must be a mature adolescent who is, of course, a non-Jew DAMN! I always heard it was the blood of innocent babies they took! MUST people change everything? (sarcasm)

How rediculous but the think is, those Arabs will believe it. Of course they believe it. They are kept ignorant by their religious cult leaders, and that is their only source of information. Christians used to say and believe the same thing. Crap like this is why it is so important to make sure we never have a theocracy.

Nothing to do with this thread, but your screen name reminded me of a thought I had the other day as I drove across the "Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge" in DC. That thought was "Why isn't there a Jackie Wilson bridge?"
BTW,your "Kosher" comment was udderly tastless, and I am jealous. I think at times like this it is proper to ask oneself the important question another FR poster asked,"WWJDD?" Which means,"What would Jeffrey Dahmer Do?"

LOL! Good one, even though it will pass right over their heads with no ducking required.

I have been following the blood libel threads for the last couple of days. Besides what newbie blackveil (2/2/02) has to say I found this crap to be standard fair along with the PEZ BS. I about lost it when they mentioned this took place in Dammam and not Riyadh. I did some lectures on materials and corrosion there. This was the Eastern Province of all places in a supposedly repectable university. I am afraid things are much worse in Kingdom then even I could have imagined. Maybe a policy of Exxonorabia in Eastern Saudi would be in the worlds best interests with the rest of Saudi going back to the possession of Jordan where it rightfully belongs.
