"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. "The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."
Alexander Tyler - on the Athenian Republic

I think good parenting is irreplacable. I see a real liberal lean in the schools today and when I went. Some left wing causes are taught, it is true. However, I ended up Libertarian, something many left wingers hate more than they hate conservatives. I think the parental influence is much more than the schools. I say teach your kids to process the input and determine their own truth. I don't lament public schools. I know they have done fine for me.

You obviously did not read the book. Buchanan agrees with you and says that there is lots of good in this country. He points out much of the good this country and the west have done like ending slavery and fighting fascism and communism. He wants to continue this great country. Surely, you don't oppose that?
How does it feel to be on the same side as Buchanan?
The point of that last snide remark was to illustrate that personal dislike for a person or group should not interfere with your judgement.
Does it?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Your point, if you have one, escapes me. My point (for folks with an obtuse world view) is that most Americans view Buchanan as a wacko. Pat's own behavior (e.g., as the Reform Party candidate) has done much to cement the view.
Because Pat is a wacko, any idea that he endorses is, therefore, branded as wacko.
In reality, I think you probably understood my original point very well, but are loathe to admit that it is true.

Buchanan reminds me of the salesman in The Music Man.
I'm sure he's not very fond of billiards, too.

One of my all time favorite quotes. I first heard it in a speech by Senator Bennett of Utah at a Repub convention where I was a delegate. I aked him about it and he only knew that a staffer had given it to him for his speech. By the way, Bennett was one of the few sane people to vote against Bush's continuing socialization and centralization of American Education. Bravo, Senator Bennett!

Yes, I have an immense personal dislike for Pat Buchanan. He's an isolationist and an opportunist and I'm not so sure he cares for more than his on self-advancement.

WHEN BUCHANAN TALKS, NOBODY LISTENS! lol
He has lost credibility since his Independent run. You might as well be quoting "BARNEY" the purple dinosaur.

The war is over. The leaders of the Republicans long ago gave up, and now are not even mentioning the roll back of govt, the socialism of America, or the need to lower spending. As a matter of fact with the Rs in control of the purse, govt has been growing faster than inflation.

I appreciate your explanation. Now I see what you mean. You can make an outrageous, unsupported statement but no one else can think different. "Pat is a wacko and any idea he endorses is branded by wacko". Buchanan is plenty well-respected and is a best-selling author, and well-paid commentator. Prima facie evidence that your view is wrong. Regards.

He creates a horrific situation in peoples' minds and then offers himself as the saviour of the day. Just as did Hitler. He likes Hitler, seemingly. And the Hitler-fans adore him.

I appreciate your candor. I personally have never met Mr. Buchanan, but several people whom I admire have spent considerable time with Mr. Buchanan and say he is a wonderful man who is willing to do everything he can to be pro-american. They say he is not any of the things you say he is. They know him, you don't. I believe them, not you. Regards.

Since when does the majority decide what is truth? And remember that this electorate elected President Clinton twice. Enough said.
Did you read the book? And does what the book say make sense?

You're just now figuring this out? The Republicrats sold out long ago. I have not voted for either of them in ages whenever I do make a fool out of myself and partake in their rigged elections.

False statement. Try AOL chat rooms if this is the best you can do.

Actually this year I did remove my 16 year old daughter from public school for home schooling as she is more susceptible to indoctrination than my sons. Regards.
To: baxter999
False statement. Lol. Which part of it? Prove it false, if you can. Prove it even exaggerated, if you can.
