Unfortunately on the whole Silent Hunter II sucked. Great graphics but no dymanic campaign and only fixed scenarios, replayability is very low.

Thanks Cote, I remember reading books on the Murmansk Convoys and PQ-17 in High School.
You didn't survive long if you didn't get picked up fast and that included both sides, torpedoed ships and downed bombers. It was a brutal environment to fight in.

Sam...
You'll be interested to know that from the story you posted for me on Typhoon Cobra, dozens of people have made contact with me and I ran into another survivor right here in California.
In addition, author and journalist Robert Dorr has done an item for Navy Times news and I've invited both of these folks to share the Freeper Foxhole experience.
Lastly, please help us continue to circulate the Support Petition for OUR Commander in Chief. The response in the other FR areas have been less than sterling, given the great job GWB did in the polls after the State of the Union address to the nation. We all saw what the media tried to do... it failed and the country stands solidly behind him. I believe that most of our great veterans would agree. Freeper Foxhole is the place to find them.
I track each source of new petitions signed from out webpage. With 66,000 or so Freepers, to date, 8 have signed up. That said, the nation is responding and I'm proud to be a small part of this effort. Here's the numbers so far:

Thanks for the feedback comwatch, that's great news, glad the Foxhole helped you out. Do a post with the link for the petition and I'll include it in the thread first thing every morning.

Thanks for signing the petition... pinging you with a report from
the Freeper Foxhole in hopes you'll pass it along as well. Tell those Grangers that are also veterans, this bunch is the friendlist and best Free Republic has to offer and they do great honor the hereos of this nation, past and present.
For you Foxhole dwellers out there, farmfriend is just what her name implies... along with the U.S. Grange, an organization steeped in American tradition and loyalty, Freeper Farmfriend is as tough a fighter for farmer's and rancher's rights as you'll find anywhere.

In a little follow-up to my last post... here's a brief peek at what a great resource Robert would be to Freeper Foxhole.
Robert F Dorr is a well respected author of long-standing reputation - he has written over a dozen books for Osprey over the years. His histories on modern American combat aircraft like the F-101 Voodoo and A-6 Intruder have set the standard for works of this type. His ability to combine 'crew speak' with concise editorial comment gives his books a unique and revealing style of their own. His latest is described by the publisher:
Air Force One is the aircraft that carries President George W. Bush. AIR FORCE ONE, published by MBI in September 2002, pushes aside the secrecy surrounding the president's plane, presidential travel, and its meaning to a nation now at war.
Before September 11, 2001, the blue and white Boeing 747-200, or VC-25A, was celebrated for its beauty as it whisked the chief executive to fundraisers and ribbon cuttings. An Air Force officer called the plane a "cruise ship," comparing it to a luxurious seafaring vessel.
The terror attacks changed everything. We learned that Air Force One is a military aircraft. The book covers the plane's zigzag path during hectic moments of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Why did officials believe that Air Force One itself was an intended target? Why did they dust off a hush-hush plan for continuity of government, designed for nuclear war?
AIR FORCE ONE is also a history of presidential air travel. We learn of Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Flying White House," a C-54 Skymaster modified with a special hoist to accommodate FDR's wheelchair. We see Harry S. Truman signing national security legislation aboard his C-118, the Independence. We follow the travels of presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan, including November 1963 when Air Force One brought the slain John F. Kennedy home from Dallas.

Great reading, as usual.

I was thinking about my last post where I talked about The Grange... This is for the media and those who would call us "Pro-War" because we object the methods of the "Anti-War" bunch. First, I call that group the "Anti-Everything" bunch and yes, just like a "bunch" of carrots, they appear much the same. They claim anti-war while attacking EVERYTHING this nation stands for.
I don't know one person in our ranks that relishes the thought of war. Do you? What's ironic, is the strange bedfellows that one finds when wearing the badge as a Patriot Defender. Take The Grange, the farmer and the rancher... countless are the number of American heroes that came from the fields, the saddle, the tractor, or the stockyards to take up arms in defense of our way of life. In each one of them and in the hearts and minds of their loved ones left behind, that line from Isaiah has personal meaning, "they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Isaiah 2:4)
Is that not the world we strive for? Go ahead, call us Pro-War.... I think we're big enough to take it, because our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers forged plowshares into swords to defend the very rights you have, trying to trash our way of life. Today we don't struggle with what the definition of "is" is... we know what it is... it's leadership, a moral compass, solidarity between the brave and those who are proud of the brave and a commitment to keep this nation strong while you strive to divide. God Bless OUR Commander in Chief... for being IN COMMAND and the trust he engenders in most Americans.

Survivors from the Carlton and the Honomu fell into the hands of the Germans and were not liberated until 1945. Nine of these men liberated were survivors from the Carlton Armed Guard.
American Merchant Ships Sunk in WWII
The war would never have been won without the valiant efforts of the heroes who manned these ships, both Merchant Marine and Armed Guard. The Merchant Marine who manned the engine rooms were the most often killed due to the explosions.
-- Captain Arthur R. Moore

Thanks for posting that quote from Captain Moore giving creit to the Merchant Mariners.
