I know that the real focus on Gettysburg will be next year with the 150th anniversary then but I found a Hard Rock band that put together a "Rock Opera" of the battle and figured the 149th was a good enough time to show it. Days 2 and three to follow.

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be in Buford’s command that day.
Whenever we watch the movie, I find myself talking out loud at the screen, telling Lee not to walk those men across that open field. It was a moment of madness.
Without Gettysburg, we would never know of Joshua Chamberlain.

One of the nice things about the movie is a lot more people now know about Buford and he was played by the ultimate quiet badass Sam Elliott.

The movie “Gettysburg” is a good film.
Martin Sheen as Lee is awful.
Robert Duvall as Lee would have made this a great film.
One thing about the movie. I’ don’t think Little Round Top had trees, back then. I am under the impression that Little Round Top had been logged off, and was bare of cover.
I visited G-burg 10 years ago and wept at the copse of trees on C-ridge when I pondered how suicidal that charge was. The Rebs lost 30% of all troops committed over the 3 days of fighting.
You are correct. Little Round had been partially cleared. Scattered boulders/rocks provided cover for Infantry. Per Thomaslegion.net
Didn’t see it was ‘pennsylvania’ volunteers. My ggg also fought at Gettysburg, Bernie Shultz. Don’t know what division, though. My brother knows it, he is a civil war reenactor. Said he didn’t understand the battle till they actually ‘fought’ it.
We rode on horses through the battlefield last year. It’s huge, and I’m so glad they kept it as a National Park.
If you are planning a fall trip to the Gettysburg area, I would suggest timing it with The National Apple Harvest Festival, held the first two weekends of October.

Located just outside of Gettysburg in Biglerville, it’s a great old fashion “country fair”. And the country side is beautiful this time of year; the weather cool and the apples great. Lots of great food, vendors of local arts and crafts, pie eating and apple bobbing contests for the kids, music, square dancing, displays of antique cars and old farming equipment, hay rides.
It’s a really good time. I’ve gone there many times since I discovered it by accident while camping in the area with some friends. And it’s close enough to Gettysburg that you can tour the battle fields and go to the festival.

Have visited many Civil War Battlefields. None so powerful as Gettysburg. Sickles Hole. The Wheatfield. Devil’s Den. Each place has a story.
