Because I'm pointing you to the Army Times and they are on the list of "News Organs" that don't want any of their words post on FR I can only point you to the Army Times web site. You'll enjoy the words that the troops are giving to whoever made the decision (if you can call it that) to do away with the Class A Greens and go to a Junked Up Dress Blue uniform.

Yeah! What he said! Army's green where I come from. This is as stupid as that idiota suprema Shinseki trying to make the whole Army look like Rangers with the black beret.

We wore blue up ‘til the early 20th century. We didn’t wear greens until the ‘50s. Bring back the blues [As a former tanker/ cavalry descendant, I’m partial].

Agreed.
You don't even want to hear what came from my Army wife's mouth about this; and I'm retired Army. It was on par with the low level of intellect that she ascribed to the order that entire Army go “French” and wear a beret.

My favorite was the Dress Greens....looked pretty slick with or without the jacket. The Marine Corps doesn't partake of such silliness -- find a good uniform and stick with it.

Someone posted a pic a week or so ago on this that had a pic of some ROTC cadets in very sharp khaki/forest green uniforms.
Tradition is ok, so long as the style comes with it. Going for old colors with new styles has made the Class A look really low-rent and not inspiring. Esprit de corps only works if you want to be part of that corps.

Except for the stupid beret [I HATE those damn things], it looks basically like the blues they wear now [except for the unit patch on the pocket. I'd probably go with the dress blues we wear now, but I could live with that.
As an aside, my AOB class got informally polled on what distinct uniform we'd like for armor. We put in for black coveralls, and a black p*sscutter, all trimmed in Armor yellow, with tanker boots and either a branch scarf or black turtleneck. They turned it down. Reminded them of something they'd seen before.

I ride the Metro every day with hundreds of soldiers (Blue Line to Pentagon and on to DC) in their camouflage and have to say they look hot, hot, hot. Uh, that is, very attractive and masculine. They even have camouflage notebooks, brief cases, messenger bags etc. and look great. I hope this doesn’t mean that is going to change.

Such worries were never a factor in the Navy in the 1980's when the Navy Winter Service Blues for officers was black pants, black shirt and a black p*sscutter. The saying was that we looked like the Good Humor Ice Cream man in the summer and the Waffen SS in the winter.

They should have gone for the Old WWI Pink and Tans. A khaki or Brown Uniform with variations like the WWII days. Long Brown Coat or Eisenhower Coat, Khaki pants, Khaki Shirt, Khaki Tie. That would look much better than the new ASU.
To: StAthanasiustheGreat
The troops had even suggest that. The Screwed UP Blues idea was not even in the running of what the troops wanted.

that changed!
I think the Army's on the right track by trying to whittle down the number of uniforms, and if it comes down to the greens or the blues, I'll take the blues any day of the week. Not sure I'm on board with the white shirt and all that, but I understand there needs to be some kind of replacement for the Class Bs as well as the As.
The ACUs were a major functional improvement over the BDUs, though I'm more than a little suspicious of that color's ability to camouflage me from anything.
The beret was a mixed bag. I hate having to wear the beret in ACUs (it's so much easier to put on the soft cap when you have your hands full), but it looks infinitely better than the Rosie O'donnell-ugly garrison cap in a dress uniform. Plus, taking the black color from the Rangers was dumb, especially since the tan beret actually looks better, if you ask me!

Beware of chaning uniforms..
Look at what former General Merrrill McPeak did to the Air Force Uniforms. The Army might regret going that route.

The 2 different colors of blue are very traditional and significant. During the 1800’s and in the Cavalry western outposts, the Jacket was used specifically for cememonies and “dressy” occasions, and were stored away. The pants were used and worn daily, and thus became sun bleached and worn. The Army, keeping the tradition alive (for once), kept the off setting colors for this fact.

Why not just go back to the WWII-era Eisenhower-style uniforms? Blue is OK, but they need to go back a lot further in history for styling cues.

The Cavalry used to be the ones who wore the black beret, until the Rangers whined about it at some point.
