I agree. Just wrote a paper about that for a history class on air power. Those guys needed more air power that day.

Outstanding work. Lessons learned:

1. Don't go into Indian Country without armor and heavy firepower.
2. You own the night, exploit it.
3. Logistics are vital.

Col David Perkins 2nd Brigade, 3rd ID remembered these lessons when he made the Thunder Run into Baghdad. Much different results against a more heavily-armed enemy.

I don't like the story either. Some threads are difficult to post. The 11th anniversary of this atrocity is Sunday and it is a story that just sickens me.

However, I know that I have to live up to the mission at the Foxhole. We are a reminder for ourselves and others of our history and this is certainly a chapter we can learn from as difficult as it is to tell.

To me it is like many of the Vietnam stories, hard to take but a self imposed kind of punishment so that I never forget.

I know you understand more about that than I do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us Iris7, it is a sad tragic piece of our history.

Good Morning to you too, snippy! It is an awesome class, very interesting. My major is Peace, War, and Defense. Hopefully, fingers crossed here if the head lets me substitute a course, I will be graduating in May. Long overdue too. 4th school, over 10 years for a bachelor's. :)
