Ron Paul Is More Conservative Than Rick Santorum.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- During a Republican presidential debate Saturday, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum had a spat about who was more conservative as each clawed for blocks of Republican voters needed to topple front-runner Mitt Romney.
According to a study done back in 2004 though, Paul was the more conservative of the two by a fairly healthy margin.
A list put together at voteview.com found that out of the 3,320 individuals (1 being the most liberal and 3,320 being the most conservative) who had served in the House or Senate from 1937 to 2002, Santorum ranked 2,674, while Paul ranked 3,320.
"Four or five times he voted to raise the national debt, so that tells you how conservative he is," Paul said Saturday about Santorum. Based on the survey, Paul could question pretty much any politician's conservative record against his own.
The scores were based on all roll calls cast in the period. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich slotted in at 2,893.
Paul finished second in the New Hampshire primaries Tuesday night partly thanks to independent voters in the state who turned out, while Santorum -- who's social conservative message found traction in Iowa -- slid into a virtual tie with Gingrich behind third-place finisher Jon Huntsman.
"I sorta have to chuckle when they describe you and me as being dangerous," Paul said to supporters in a speech after the primary. "That's one thing they are telling the truth about, because we are dangerous to the status quo."
The GOP field will canvass South Carolina through Jan. 21 as each candidate attempts to pitch a conservative message to Southern voters who are skeptical of Romney's record.
A Rasmussen Reports poll released Jan. 3 found that 26% of likely U.S. voters regarded Romney as a moderate.
Interestingly, Paul also ranked next to Romney as the perceived least conservative option in the GOP presidential field.

Ron Paul cannot count on the Jewish vote, I’ll tell ya that.
Santorum is from Pennsylvania and he’s has his liberal moments on non social issues like supporting animal rights legislation to regulate kennels and the budget busting debt raising Medicare Part D.
Ron Paul has his problems, but Rick Santorum is a darling of the inside the beltway National Right To Life.
NRL’s longtime General Counsel, James Bopp, is a family issues advisor to Mitt Romney.
Santorum is in the race to keep the anti-Mormon evangelical vote tied up so it won’t go to another candidate and beat Romney.

He’s a Halfpublican.
“...but he will be able to pick up most of the important independent vote in November.”
And lose the Republican/TEA Party vote.
I don’t think that will work out too well for him.

The very things conservatives dislike about Ron Paul are the president’s primary duties: commander in chief and foreign relations. The things we like best about him, like his fiscal conservatism, are controlled by Congress. In other words, Ron Paul would be a terrible president. Plus, I don’t think he has the negotiation skills necessary to work with Congress. If he did manage to get even half of his agenda done, he’d create economic chaos and misery. Like it or not, the federal behemoth needs to be slowly and carefully rolled back, not hacked apart in short order.

Associating with Code Pink - Associating with 9/11 truth - endorsing and going out on the stump to aggressively campaign for Adam Kokesh, a well-known Code Pink Activist, 9/11 truther who went overseas to a military base and asked troops to abandon their posts, was responsible for the campus slander campaign against students putting up fake racist flyers and attributing them to a conservative student organization, etc. Saying that Israel set up Hamas. Making absurd statements that the U.S. could have simply 'bought' all the slaves and prevented the Civil War. Saying that a Yale Fraternity is controlled by the Trilateral Commission. Saying that "If I were Iranian I'd want the bomb" - we aren't interested in what he would want if he were Iranian we are interested in what he would want as an American. Repeated appearances on the Alex Jones show. Endorsing Cynthia McKinney - Etc, etc, etc, etc...one could probably continue the length of a book with example after example of this silliness.
That's the sort of thing some of us have a problem with - not that he's an alleged "constitutionalist" as has been discussed here numerous times.
Ron Paul authored 620 pieces of legislation, 4 of which made it to be voted upon and only 1 of those was actually passed into law. For his years in congress, he’s actually got the WORST RECORD of all the candidates in the race. Since he was elected, he’s been very busy loading up the earmarks for the shrimp-boat lobby into bills he knew would pass but voted against.

So those who claim his “domestic policy is great, but his foreign policy misses the mark” are wrong. Voting against his own bills doesn’t make a LIEberaltarian “more conservative” than anyone in the field and the myth needs to die along with his Soros-funded candidacy.

Libertarianism is in fact what Conservatism used to be
Neither one of these assertions is true.
First, Ron Paul is a self-described Libertarian. He ran for president on the Libertarian ticket in 1988.
Second, there is nothing "conservative" about the Libertarian Party. Libertarians are only a philosophical step or two away from anarchists. They don't want small or smaller government, they want absolute minimalist government.
On most social issues, they are libertines, or nearly so. They want open borders, legalization of all drugs, an absolute minimalist military to go along with rock bottom minimalist government. In these matters, Libertarians and liberals are kissing cousins.
