I hope he’s not advising the HSA on the TIMING of terrorist attacks. He’s clearly got his timing off.

Interesting. The Campaign goes forward. I did cast my vote for RP on Tuesday... with pride, instead of cringing as I marked the box. As would have happened with ANY other candidate the Pubbie party put forth. Maybe not so much for a Tom Tancredo or possibly Duncan Hunter, but it woulda been there.

I know Ron Paul is a team player and will provide the customary reach around.

“Quagmire: America in the Middle East and Sandstorm: Policy Failure in the Middle East.”

These defeatist publications are obsolete, especially since the Sunni Awakening. Perhaps the author could write an updated version: Quagmire: Al Qaeda in the Middle East.

No surprise, he contributes to antiwar.com and the Huffington post.

Pape is a complete idiot.

First, he legitimizes suicide terror, inflicted primarily against the larger population of other Muslims, by ascribing it’s motivation to the presence of westerners, not to religious fanaticism or a desire to create a Caliphate.

Next, he argues western policy should built around not “provoking” such attacks by leaving the region to the devices of that minority of terrorists.

Hello! Mr. Pape, your policy would incentivize suicide attacks.

Why is speculating about the motives of murderers “legitimizing” their actions? I’m guessing lots of police detectives around the world “legitimize” murder in exactly that way every day.

Pape contends that there is no connection between bombings, or any form of terrorism for that matter, and Islamic fundamentalism. It's simply a reaction to western imperialism. Surprise, surprise.

BTW new fundraising effort, though nothing from a source we can post here. Willis Carto and American Free free press, in recognition of their treatment of Paul, are requesting donations to silence Michael Medved and Michelle Malkin. I'm thinking they're more interested in the donations, but what do I know. There's no end to Ron Paul profit making ventures. Nothing to do with him though.

There is another alternative. Though he doesn't recognize the religious motivation, Pape does recognize that religious differences are a factor. We could simply address those religious differences, since Muslims are doing virtually all the bombing, if we all became Muslims the terrorist might end! Of course that's one of the reasons they engage in terror, so I fear he's leading us in a circle.

You misquoted me. I said bending the nation’s policies to conform to the demands of those who use violence, as Pape argues, provides an incentive for violence. I never said it “legitimizes” violence.

Today, a guy just killed a bunch of people at a town hall meeting because he was upset about parking tickets.

By Pape’s logic, this means we must examine our parking control policies lest we provoke more mass murders.

The problem is that once you start to bend policy to placate those who use violence, you are likely to get more violence, driven by an ever expanding set of motivations, for the simple reason people will see it works.

I believe you said both things. In post 10 above, the second sentence begins:

First, he legitimizes suicide terror...

I agree that giving in to terrorist demands will encourage more terrorism. It is possible to believe that while also believing that our military interventions can cause some ill will which might not otherwise exist.
